Back then.....I can live without seeing him play with miley cyrus at a superbowl halftime show. Does anyone follow the stones anymore? I mean, you gotta stop some where, but I agree, Joe is my god along with lemmy, but let it go, the music let's him live on forever and this is proof
@@FreshRigs if you knew just how much money was on the table for The Clash to get back together which they repeatedly turned away you wouldn't ever even think that but you might be a bot.
Thank you so much uploader! Discovered this set a few years ago but only single tracks. Didn't know if I was missing out on any. Now I can just listen to the whole thing in one go. Thanking you!
I was into the first 2 Clash albums and all the singles when i was like 13/14 and he seemed old. He died aged 50, im now 52, he died waaaaaaaay too young. R.I.P Joe.
The thing is that bands and acts from other countries that are influenced by The Beatles have it in the fabric of their music along with other elements but they don't sound like them it is merely a recipe ingredient not the cake. NIAGARA in France in late 80's into 90's. TIROMANCINO in Italy over past 2 decades are just two examples. Unlike OASIS they have their own original concepts.
Hi thanks for your kind offer - but I think live Strummer was way passed it by this stage (as seen by this version of London calling). What was Mick Jones like at the Strummer of love festival then? I checked out some of it here - it looks good - the crowd seems to be really up for it inspite of the dogy weather.
Joe sounds GREAT here as he is playin his trusty old Fender. the 2nd guitarist, oddly enough, is playing a Les Paul 'COPY' (NOT A GIBSON) on 'London Calling' then switches to a real Lester. FFS, Only a GIBSON is good enough Mon.
As we near the 14th anniversary of your passing Joe... I miss you like I'd miss a brother, you changed the way I think and feel anout my life! Viva Joe Strummer!
Joe's 1966 fender telecaster as classic a joe strummer: This was Joe’s favorite guitar. He bought it in 1975 second-hand. Just prior to this, Joe was offered £120 to marry Pamela Moolman, a South African citizen, so she could obtain British citizenship. That’s how he got the money! The guitar was originally sunburst, but in 1976 when the Clash was formed, influenced by Sex Pixtols, Joe wanted his guitar to look more authentic. He took it to the auto body shop, where the guitar’s body and pickguard were refinished in grey auto primer and then painted with black automobile paint. Joe’s Tele is filled with stickers and various slogans which changed over time. At the first stage the word “NOISE” was painted just over the pickguard and two stickers were added. One seen on the pictures above saying “Ignore Alien Orders”, and other was probably a Rastafarian flag at the bottom of the pickguard. About that same time there was also a small sticker just bellow the guitar controls, that wrote “War” but it was scraped off and disappeared with time. Later on, the “Trash City” sticker was added just behind the bridge, which was also changed to the one that has individual saddles for each string. Original Kluson tuners were replaced with Fender “F” style tuners and a large question mark was painted on the body’s back. Since Joe’s death the guitar made appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum after which it was returned to Joe’s family
I'm 61 now, funny how the Clash passed me by, I thought Joe Strummer was an angry man and didn't pay too much attention to him, I could not have been more wrong in this judgment, what a great legacy he has left from the time of Punk and beyond, because his music will live on.
I’m also 61 but the Clash defo didn’t pass me by….but in all honesty the Mescaleros are the band that were ‘up top’ for me….although early Clash gigs were special Take care Bredda
It's never to late to discover Joe's music. I kind of want to put it on at the assisted living facility for the folks who have to tolerate shit. I mean, there are rockers in those homes!
there was tears in my eyes when he went and greeted the people doing Bankrobber, you could tell he was loving what he was doing and mixed with the powerful lyrics it was just magic.
Saw Joe with the Clash a few times and with the Mescaleros a few times. Some people have to work at it to be cool.....some people are just born cool, Joe was one of those!
Joe Strummer was such a big influence on my life. I can't begin to tell you. Saw the Clash for the first time when I was in the 6th grade on a show called Fridays. It was a late night tv sketch comedy show. Joe however was a very serious man. A third father to me. Thank you Joe for teaching me some things.
That's right. He said it himself. He was no communist, but his ideas always were on the left side. Joe didn't pin himself to just one idea. This guy was a visionaire, and smarter and kinder than any politician.... I can recommend the book "Let fury have the hour: the punk rock politics of Joe Strummer" by Antonino D'Ambrosio. Gives you a great idea of "Strummunism".
haha i love the fact they open the show with London Calling... the line "London calling, now don't look to us, Phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust..." and the other guitarist hadsa big John Lennon sticker on his guitar.
what a talented good man. If we all could be like Joe strummer, then there were no wars, and we could find alloways solutions and be more patient.... Rest in Peace. eire..eire...
get the "smoothers out of the way" man i miss that guy soo much and am glad that i saw this Tour in Hartford CT a few months before he passed. I had the great fortune of meeting him after the show and couldn't believe how earthy and humble he was; he made me feel in the most sincerest way that he cared about me and my life as much as i cared about him. people say that meeting your heroes can be a great dissapointment, but with Joe it was not at all the case. RIP Joe, RIP!
He was always like that. I first met him in a nightclub in London in 1978 when I was a little idiot punk rocker, and he was totally gracious and genuine and prepared to give up his time. Much love to him x
I saw The Clash at Canterbury cinema used for a concert venue, I waited outside and I was lucky enough to be asked to come up with some other punk fans, all the band were there Joe Mick topper Paul I was dumbfounded my idols in front of me all I could say to one of the members of the band which was Paul simonon where do you live , And he replied Notting Hill.
I love you too much joe strummer, the clash, reveals times of what was to become our future reality, you are a soul that knows other people and gives themselves, for others, I love you when you rock me,please keep rocking our world, where are you, surfing Thailand or Hawaii, lets hit the waves when my ribs get better, I love what you do man,its real love. what do you think of U2? I love your words and your heart man, when people are for one another, life shines. what do you think of these Kennedy's? hahhahah I love everything I hear by you
wow sick performance, this quite possibly might the best musical group put together. when i tell people what my favorite musical group is Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros they look at me funny. if only everybody could learn to dig through the crap and find this musical diamond in the rough.
Nothing to do with digging through the crap. The first two albums from the clash will never be bettered. You was either there or not. But least your a strummer fan. Stay free!
So much Music , so many groups . I sang with The Changes , Joe with The Mighty CLASH and The Mescaleros , very few musicians could get right to you , the way they did . Great guys , great songs , Great Messages . Luv'em !
I was really close to Joe Strummer but had no awareness of what he had done with his life until now. It's the internet making it possible. I want to apologise for when I was young and idiotic.
I'll have to listen it again then - I've got the cassette somewhere! Strummer was in so many bands after the Clash broke up - I only realised this after reading his biography a few years back.
RIP Joe,. Love you man... Punk Rock Warlord!! #strrummerlives , Shame on this crowd! Have seen every live act I've wanted to see. Only regret is I never got to see this game changing legand live :(
Haha,i was there. Should the people pogo and stagediving to the Mescaleros ? That's not a Clash white riot gig... for me Mescaleros was Music to listen and dancing and smoking good stuff 🤩🎸🎸🎸🥁🎙🔊🔊☠
Don't miss the interview at the end!!! Strummer at its best: his message to the record companies. Niemand sonst kann so schön Galle spucken. * ANGER IS AN ENERGY *
Wondrr how he picked out these mescalero musos? Probably 100’s queuinh for that band replacement thing. At least Joe sisnt play with a “string orchestra”. Woulda cost him a lot
When the second Oasis album came out in France the TV commericals proclaim them Le nouvelle Beatles !! It was enough to get the album into the top ten but then about two weeks later after people heard it , it dropped like a brick about 40 or 50 places.
