In this clip, Joe Torry talked about being inspired by Sammy Davis Jr. to get into entertainment and how he began his standup career soon after graduating from college. Joe recounted bombing on stage during his first set and how the comedian following him up piled on by talking about how bad his set was. He also talked about befriending comedic legend Robin Harris and how Robin talked about him so badly when Joe tried heckling him.

Robin Harris would talk about people so bad that no one would even leave their seats to go to the bathroom when he was on the stage. This was the 80's. He would talk about the dope dealers, the police, the women, other comedians, and whoever else that would move around during his set. He would also talk about TK. At the club Regency West is where I first heard of TK. He was an up-and-coming comedian back then.

@@mumukamara1 TK was just honing his craft there at the Comedy Act Theater (Regency West) in which Robin Harris was the "top dog" and the host. TK was always there as one of Robin's protégés. A lot of famous Black comedians came through Regency West.

Well, Joe learned that from Robin and probably exceeded him. I saw him at a club in LA in 1991. I was warned by the Lady that I went with to go and do all I needed to do before the show. She was right, as he roasted people coming in and getting up. It was a blood bad, and he was possibly one of the funniest guys out there in the early to mid 1990's

I had a coworker come to work and he had scratches on his face. I sad what happened. He said he went to the recency and Robin Harris talked about his hair line so bad his wife wanted to fight. He said he had to stop his wife, and literally manhandle her to get her outside. Will I had to go. They said be on time get in, get your seat and don’t move. There is no one like him. RIP Robin Harris.
