Tuomas’ lyrics have evolved from early love, suffering and fairytales, through the poetic, escapist and fantastic to the nature, science and universally humane subjects. He is wonderful that way, he writes about what moves, inspires and interests him at the time.

It's about how we are amazed by this planet and the universe, how we live in it and how our curiosity and investigation leads us to understand the workings of the system one step at a time.

Not only is Nightwish music so entertaining, but so are you guys too :) I like that you are looking at the lyrics too, and Tuomas goes so deep with his lyrics, he doesn't go straight into the story....you have to figure it out, think hard and understand about life, nature, evolution, history, the universe, and in the middle of everything is you.. surrounding by this beauty...that is what he wants us to see. Tuomas and Floor both studied biology and considered biology as a career before music captured them. With Tuomas it was a Metallica concert in the US. Not sure about Floor but she was still young when After Forever arrived. This song is a product of that early study - and Richard Dawkins book.

Yep guys - you are on track on the lyrics. The whole concert were stories about the wonders of nature, the universe and the evolution - and the deep thoughts some people have. Respect and wanting to know and learn more, think about you life, compared to the big picture and so on. Toumas uses music, lyrics, and different special effects - and Floor uses her body and incredible voice to color and express the thoughts behind. Most importantly, you are listening - and making your own thoughts. Listen to the songs again, and you'll grow new thoughts and /or continue discover new grades or elements. Nightwish music are so intense and complexed - and Floor that phenomenal beast - changes deliberately her toning and colors in her voice from concert to concert - just to make you re-think again and again. Nightwish are phenomenal - and you 3 are helpless caught now - just like the rest of the Army 🤣👍🤘🤘🤘

"in search of the source of the tale" is a scientific quest to explain the existence of the Universe. They are talking about vastness of the space (deep silence between) and stars, planets and galaxies (notes).

Another good show-starter, eh? I just found you guys yesterday or today, and am just binging on your NW reactions. Love the brutal comraderie amongst you three. Reactors that have gone deep down the rabbit hole find very little musical tid-bits that are carried throughout the discography, however YES there are consistent themes lyrically. This song was written more than a decade after Stargazers. Also, the albums are themed so you might find a tie-in with My Walden of the songs you've already done. Strongly have to throw out (again) a recommendation of Yours is an Empty Hope and Weak Fantasy from this same show. Rock on! Also, the lyrics are often immensely deep!. He's definitely not your carbon-copy songwriter.

Definitely the last few albums have had a heavy influence of evolution and the world, before that it was fairy tales and tale sin general. This still comes out at times, for example the latest album has a song called pan that has a lot of references to tales and stories in literature.

Back2School got it. The song is about being in awe with the Universe. Oprah Winfrey once said that people who are not religious don't know the feeling of being in awe. WRONG! Just thinking about how tiny we are in this bigger than our understanding can reach Universe gets me in awe and at the same time makes me shudder before the beauty of it. Ever seen those comparison pics with the Earth next to the Sun, next to a giant star? We are nothing! Smaller than a speck of dust! It's really amazing to me.

The notes as we look up could be the stars, each one of which is separated by millions of miles of deep silence (the void of space). A wonderful musical metaphor. Tuomas (keyboardist) writes and composes about 90% of the songs and I heard he originally was going to be a micro biologist but started playing in a n=band that exploded to what it is now. So, I think a lot of his songs are based on actual knowledge and interests he has in the scientific community. Much like Neal Peart, drummer from RUSH, read a lot of Science Fiction and based a lot of their lyrics on futuristic or medieval era times and most albums were entire stories. I good example was with Clockwork Angels, an actual book was written by Neal and another famous author plus graphic novels came out to expand on more of the story. With Nightwish, I could see epic books, graphic Novels or even Manga style comics or cartoon movies like Heavy Metal coming. Keep up the great reactions guys!
