From what I understood he asked Jim Povolo to bring him an specific candy (dont know which one hes referring here, never heard of it), but Jim played him a prank on him and gave him a snickers. When he saw the snicers he was on character so he just said 'SNICKERS?!' and that's how it the joke started among them.

If it makes him feel any better I’m not a fan of snickers either. But lol that’s amazing. The next time I grab a mini candy bar and find out it’s a snickers I’m totally gonna pull a Joe and no one will get it except me.
The marketing head from Red Vines contacted them because his daughter loved AVPM, and he ended up sending them a huge box of Red Vine products. He said they could use them as unofficial product placement if they wanted for AVPS, and that's what they ended up doing. Joey Richter told this story in an interview sometime after AVPS. I don't like snickers, when cold it's unbreakable and impossible for me to bite into, and even if it's at room temperature i still don't like it because it gets stuck between my teeth and too sweet for my liking
