Sadly both Joe & Wayne are now both gone. But they both left this and so much other beauty behind. Two beautiful souls with full command of their instruments bringing novel approaches to to their instruments, their music, their bands and their lives! Wayne and Joe left the Earth a much improved place with their music!
If I can wipe the tears off my keyboard: never mind, words cannot express how this makes me feel. I'm only very very greatful to know -- reading all of your wonderful comments -- that the very deep love I have for these two historic masters is shared by far more then I ever knew. If was lonely out there before the internet
Sadly, Joe Zawinul was admitted to hospital in his native Vienna exactly five days after this concert and passed on to glory on September 11, 2007. One can tell by the ill-fitting jacket that Joe wore during this final concert that he was not healthy. Regardless, his supreme musicianship was still on full display. A genius of a composer and a master keyboardist, may his soul rest in eternal peace.
God is so merciful. To allow the love between them to come full circle and once more do what they loved together.. What a beautiful moment.. RIP both of them.. Loved Weather Report!
this is sooo beautiful & also touching to me - as I didn't know that they ever shared a stage since WR !!! May you both rest in peace , and play together up there ... 😘😘
Joe was certainly one the most inspirational jazz keyboardist/composer of the last 40 years and more (with just a few others like Corea or Hancock). His music was very sophisticated but spoke directly to your soul, he was living at a higher level we will never reach. Losing such a marvelous artist is a big loss.
As Zawinul grew older, it seems to me that his keyboards took on the tones of church pipe organs (his left hand) and his solos the accordian he played as a youth. He peaked when he died
I met both of these idols in 1980 - forty years ago. It is a meeting I will treasure until the end of my days. Thank you both for your music. RIP Joe Zawinul. 🌞🇬🇧🙏🌞
At the end of a lifetime of proclaiming himself (and not without justification) to be "the baddest," here is Joe Zawinul now on record for the ages: "For me, the greatest living musician in the world... Wayne Shorter." The music these two created separately, and together with Weather Report and with Miles, stands at the highest level of human creative endeavor. What a sublime performance, what an amazing gift to the world. This is the epitome of musical genius. Watch, listen and rejoice...
Let's give a hand young generations enjoy freedom of expression & let it sound just this good, young performers need to grow up with good stuff and those who know the best jazz tracks to enjoy, let them shine again fans
Two of the greatest musical artists of the 20th & 21st century. This performance was just two weeks before Joe passed into the next eternal chapter. I can say I was blessed to have been able to play with them in the early days of Weather Report. Pure genius in one time and space. The "multuverse" has been generous!!
Il gesto del saluto finale a Wayne Shorter e il suo ringraziamento sono di una eleganza unica! Due musicisti monumentali, e due veri getlemen. Thank you!
Joe was a true pioneer inventing ( along with a few of his contemporaries ) conquering and practicing a modern mix of fusion, standards, world music, and more. Weather Report was formed and had already exemplified what others wouldn’t do for year's.He was a working scientist and a heartfelt composer. It was an honor to hear this and speaks to his respect of his audience. Very beautifully wise and sincere are the comments he will know he was loved. RIP Joe
It was love at first listen for me when I heard Nubian Sundance. Wayne Shorter is the supreme Jazz colorist. Both one of kind. Tale Spinnin’ is my favorite WR album but when either of these two are playing I will listen.
How can any musician put such a profound stamp, such a unique and instantly recognizable style, so solidly in place this late in the history of jazz. Joe passed six months after this concert. I will miss him for the rest of my life.
There's greatness and then there are things beyond all of that. This is one of them. These two giants, maestros, geniuses...together. Pure emotion & communication. It is really hard to believe this is 39 days (less than 6 weeks!!!) before Joe left us. Eternal blessings to this duo travelling beyond space and time...
i get emotional when i watch this..brothers in their final performance together..wayne was scheduled to do some shows with syndicate.when joe's son came and got wayne wayne expressed that he was looking so forward to these shows and joe's sons informed him that those shows weren't going to happen because joe was declining fast and that they knew his death was imminent....last performance of masters....
@@harsszeg Right there with you. I bought Joe a cocktail at the Jazz Café in London, many years ago. And shook his hand. Closest I'll get to being at one with the universe.
There is perfection , then there is Weather Report. As a band or this amazing session 😊 this outside the box off the planet . I always play their music and I have all of their music. Privilege to do so .
Thinking about the studio albums, I find myself giving "In A Silent Way" more ear time than "Bitches Brew". In my mind-map, more of a paradigm-shifting album.
