Well apparently I'm older than you and remember when the funny cars first started appearing. Some had blowers, some were injected. They didn't have fiberglass bodies yet, they were acid dipped metal. Then they progressed from there. Find some old copies of Hot Rod or Car Craft from the mid sixties to find out.
I worked for Art Morrison and asked why the blower had to be wrapped. He said a camera man had a nut or bolt go into his head through the camera lens when a blower exploded. So the rule was implemented. There were close calls leading up to that bizarre freak incident though. Hard to believe. It’s why Mom always said to stay “Prayed Up” with The Lord. No joke. Seen close shaves in the Army.
Had both in my day. Both topped out on freeway no one could touch me. 😂 But I just couldn't pass a gas station 😂 Ran 396 4B in 68 Chevy / 383 1B in Charger 71
As a kid I had the COX Pinto funny car that ran on a string till it hit the bead and the shoot popped out if anyone remembers that. Mickey Thompson was KING.
