I read on Twitter that Hopper and El were originally inspired by Joel and Ellie. That makes so much sense considering the parallels. This dynamic has to be my favorite found family trope of all time. I love a good "depressed, grumpy old man adopting a spunky, powerful girl." I'll eat it up every time.
