I feel sorry for whoever wins this year if Chestnut is able to compete next year. Because when they introduce Chestnut, he'll get a LOT bigger reaction. And a lot of people's reaction to the champ will be "Who cares?" Unless the new champ breaks the record, that is.

The winner this year ate 58 dogs in 10 minutes. Joey ate 56 dogs in 5 MINUTES at a separate event that day. All anti-Chestnut!!!!!

It was more regional. The contest is only as big as its contestants. If you cancel the biggest star in your “sport” you are neutering your self.

Is this the first year that competitive eaters, specifically chestnut were required to sign an agreement ? It seems , according to chestnut, that the competitive eating organization got wind of this event he has scheduled and wanted him to sign a contract that would violate the contract that he already signed. Given your interviews with other competitive eaters and their experience with how corrupt the contests are, I don’t think this has to do with chestnuts greed… but more like corporate control.

This is like when the WWE decided to end the undertakers Wrestlemania streak in 2014, the next wrestlemania in2015 the buy rights were down 25 to 30 %. People tuned in every year to see the taker put another notch on his winning streak. We all wanted him to go 25 and 0. But Vince was a jealous sort and the thought of anybody out shinning his main event ( the wwe title) was unthinkable. So boom. This is the same thing Joe is the contest, Joe put butts into seats, Joe brought Note-oriety to the event. Joe was or in some ways became bigger than the contest. He was the headliner, he was the main event. His constantly promoting the contest was the engine that gave it national attention. So without joe being there buy rights will be down 25 to 30 % no questions. Sometimes the company needs to swallow their pride and know where to invest money to.
