Killer band and the always incomparable Joey DeFrancesco! Yes, you can play jazz with a smile on your face and have fun doing it. We lost him way too soon. RIP Mr. D!
Joey was one great bass player. So sympathetic and always wide open ears. His accompanying skills are.so spot on. Couple that with his solos…unique musical genius.
Dear Joey, these great clips, lead me to the absolutely awesome 1994 ~ Mc Glaughlin, De Francesco, Chambers, live Hamburg ~ Whooooaaaaaahhhhh, good god almighty ya' all,
Enjoyed this great relaxed show; sunset over central park is surely a 'Restaurant-at-the-end-of-the-Universe'..moment, lol, (which will be ending in half an hour so get your drinks-in'). Joey has become a great inspiration personally for his joyous musicality. Here, I catch his Tony Bennett-style crooning, muted trumpet chops (self accompanied), and an EP for the first time. Few play multiple instruments with such focused effect. The Organ/rhodes combo works but hurts the shoulders. Dan Wilson's woodshed has a mini-bar; he is miles more fluid; but its his melodic minor blues (Wes with a pick) that takes the ear. Wes 'is' organ trio for me, and Joey is nailing Mel-Rhyne's ultra-empathetic comping. Jason Brown is enjoying sideman work and could be the next Jack Dejohnette. For me the brush-work needs brushing-up. Love this trio; thanks for posting Joey, Peace
Inconmensurable trio en el, para mi, mas hermoso espacio para el Jazz como es el Dizzy”s New York!! Seria un EXTASIS total tocar en este maravilloso lugar!!!
If you don't listen to anything else you have to hear Around the World at 36:05 and Blues at 54:42 Joey's got such a great voice, and sutch a great trumpet - *_"man what talent !"_* RIP Joey .
@@kazire4591 Hello Kazire, if you listen from 30:52 until 31:00 you will hear a nice little “Jazzy Progression”. Joey plays a beautiful solo over these "Changes" and is accompanied very nicely by Dan Wilson the guitar player.
just caught Toronto Sky 2015, daaaahhhmmmnnnn!! ~ more here, so good, I'm a rabid Ron Eschete fan, totally dug the Steamers stuff with Benson, also play along with your Aebersold cuts, thank you Joey D' ~ swinging so good,

Listen to bass lines ... I'm wondering how he technically playing a walking bass , especially in uptempo . I see his feet moving and in the same time using the left hand.... Anyway, I love his playing .... This energy, the sound.... Great 👍🏻

Love this stuff. It's so difficult to know what's going on these days; anyone know if this trio is out and about please? Is Dizzy's operating as before? (No sarks please, in UK and barred from flying. Yes the website does say open but a little hazy about admission policy and who knows how the political wind is blowing since the site was last updated?! Is where we're at I suppose)
