At the end, I think he's crying because for her, he's killed his "old" self, done so much to try and escape back to his "masked" self, and his peaceful life. I think she's crying because the man she fell in love with may have never existed. Was his "masked" self not real, just a hope to be normal? Is his "old" self never truly dead, just ignored? The movie ends with the uncertain first steps forward, after the truth is laid bare. They can never truly retrace their steps. Joey's murdered many many people again, his son has shared in the killing, and they've all witnessed the old self Joey can be. They sit at the table in the ruins of their old life, wanting to be a family again, but never again the same family.
I viewed the last scene at the dinner table as the family signaling their acceptance of him after all that they have been through. The daughter signaled acceptance of him by giving a plate, the son by offering him the meatloaf, and it was left up in the air whether or not his wife would accept him.
@@johnow7 I think this applies well to both the theme of "the family accepting him," and "the family attempting to move forward now that they know the truth." The daughter is wholly innocent. She offers without question because Joey is just Dad, and love for him as family is probably unconditional. The son has seen, and taken part in the arduous journey that brought them here. He's assisted in doing harm to protect their family. As a member of both worlds now, he also offers food. Maybe acceptance comes from the fact they now share common ground. As you put, the wife does nothing. It is up in the air where they move forward from here, as we don't know whether she can accept him or not. Good interpretation!
Viggo Mortensen has a lot of amazing movie roles beside the Lord of the rings , check out Eastern Promises it has one of the craziest fight scenes in cinematic history just imagine Viggo Mortensen fighting two assassins butt naked in a Turkish bathhouse
Viggo Mortensen is a brilliant actor with great range. The casting was strong with Ed Harris, Maria Bello and William Hurt (who was nominated for an Oscar for this). You should also check out Viggo in Mr. Fantastic and The Green Book. Both are Oscar nominated performances.
I Love this movie. Cronenberg rules. Not enough reactions to this banger on youtube. You should put "Nobody" starring Bob Odenkirk on one of your polls if you haven't seen it and enjoyed this movie.
The movie has remained in my lasting memory and is dear to me because I made two mistakes in predicting its direction. First, I thought the plot would revolve around the killers from the beginning of the film, then that the movie was about a man who unwittingly drew the attention of criminals. I'm glad that we experienced the film quite similarly 🙂
Awesome and very underated movie that definately went under the radar.....got onto to you guys from your LOTR reaction and you guys are cool as. Dai refering to Joey as Aragorn was funny as 😂 ima keep checking ypur vids out 👊🇬🇧
Hey guys the Diner scene . I quote from another viewer . “ Too late for them as their evil souls were checking out . The thugs discovered that that they were nowhere near being the scariest, most dangerous killers on the planet .”
They talked about a look before. We don't see her, but we see his reaction to her, which seems like surprise - I think that's because he can see in her look that she still loves him.
I thought my screen was cracked at top right corner. Lol FIRST TIME VIEWER&NEW SUBSCRIBER. BTW. I love the soundbites dropped like Colonel MF Stinkmeaner, Ryu, and Charlie Murphy.
He had to kill all the ones from his past that were out for him in order to preserve his life and his family. His son was not a budding psychopath...he was a kid reacting to protect his dad. And IMO, when he left Joey in his past, his intention were to live a normal life as he probably realized the hit-man life he was leading was not what he wanted for his future.
Shame this one didnt perform as well as your other videos, its very good but not as remembered as stuff like lord of the rings! Movies like this one would be great as patreon exclusives when you guys feel comfortable setting one up. I cant afford that kind of thing so shooting myself in the foot... yall are always fun and seeing reactions to lesser known movies is hard to come by!
The movie is almost perfect. It has mystery, psychology, action and gore. It's just the ending sucks. It could almost be put in a top ten but the ending hurts it.
