Hulu's "The Act" is a seasonal anthology series that tells startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime stories. The first season follows Gypsy Blanchard (Joey King), a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother. Her quest for independence opens a Pandora’s box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder. King and Calum Worthy came to discuss the new series.

They fictionalized a bit of stuff which is why the real Gypsy and her family and wanting to sue because the producer didn't involve them and went behind their back. A lot of it is accurate but they are unhappy on the things they fictionalized or didn't include.

Yeah I agree. A lot of it is factionalized. Although it is BASED on true events..a lot is dramatized. For instance, how do they know that Dee Dee’s mother acted that way towards Dee Dee?

I sympathize for Gypsy 100%. The boyfriend, ehhh...not so much. Gypsy's whole life had been a lie that she was FORCED to believe. She had no escape, her mom would always manipulate and find her, in my opinion she doesn't deserve to be in jail, just in a mental institution.

I already knew Patricia Arquette would nail the role of DeeDee as she is already an amazing award winning actress. However going into the series I was hesitant on how Joey King would be and she nailed it as well. And the reason she garnered more attention is cuz 1) she was perfect playing Gypsy 2)her 1st major lead role 3) she was in every single episode whereas with the rest of the cast was not

Patricia Arquette is amazing and she did a good job portraying a certain type of character however it wasn't very inaccurate to who Deedee was. She is portrayed much more sympathetic and vulnerable when she was actually a manipulative monster who knew exactly what she was doing it's not like Joey said where she thought she was doing the right thing and thought Gypsy was actually sick that's not what Munchausen Syndrome by proxy is. The people with this rare disorder are aware that the person they are taking care of is not actually sick and that they are making them sick or that they are lying about them being sick. They know what they're doing. It's not that they are trying to be helpful they are doing it for attention and praise and for control as well as financial gain / to commit fraud

It breaks my heart when Joey talks about how drained she was after filming some days. This was Gypsy’s real life and for her there was no escape at the end of the day. It is great that her story is being shared in a way that will help people understand and I think it’s really great to shine a light on it all through a television series. But it is SO important that we remember that this traumatic story is someone’s truth. It’s only been three or four years since the truth came out man this is all so fresh!! I think it’s important to be sensitive about it all, especially since Gypsy didn’t ever get the chance to consent to her name or story being used and she was not consulted at all in the production of this series. Although I am pleased with the AMAZING portrayals from the actors and the storyline being fairly accurate (from an outsiders perspective), i am having trouble coping with the fact that gypsy wasn’t in on this at all.

Calum made Nick so relatable and sympathetic. It really made me think about how Nick has been thrown under the bus this whole time. The guy has a disability, and he gets life, while the person who convinced him to do it gets 10 years. I don’t know. I guess the only people that really know are Nick and Gypsy.

I thought they did an excellent job making Joey look like Gypsy. And Joey was exceptional in her performance. Calum basically turned to method acting to capture the personality of Nick; he would dress like him, talk like him, only eat what Nick ate for the entire time they were filming even when the cameras were off.

When I tell you this show will have you hooked on the real story, its super addicting. They did a great job of portraying the real people from the case. Joey King was astonishing as Gypsy. It literally draws you in from the first episode to the last even tho it is a short series. Hulu packs sooo much drama into one episode you couldn’t miss any.

I don't think it'll be healthy for her, she's doing very well and actually enjoying her time in prison, as hard as it is to believe if you haven't been through what she has. Watching it might make her regress, I hope her therapists won't let her be exposed to it. You have to watch her. For her own sake, of course.

this was a really good interview, the questions were great. i really don't like when interviews have shallow questions that don't address the filming process or the emotional aspects of filming. these questions were actually interesting and joey and calum were so great at answering them with quality, understandable answers. great job everyone!

I think “The Act” being a tv show is better than just being a movie because they dive into so many details that happened in this case throughout the episodes which I think is way better than an hour long movie that isn’t as detailed.

I love how Joey answered all these questions, to her belief's and becoming the character. I feel like when movies are based on real events, the actor can't answer so of the questions. so I love how she answered them to her true feelings.

After seeing him in an interview, you can tell what an incredible actor he really is. The way he portrays the multiple personalities his character says he has, is amazing. Even the way he depicts the non verbal moments, you can see his anguish and torment going on inside his head as the character would.... It's rare to see an actor who doesn't just say the lines as themselves but actually takes on the different mannerisms and the ticks, even the way he holds his composure and tilts his head; incredible!

I’d like to say that sometimes in acting, it can a toll on someone pretending to be someone they are not. Re in acting real events and having to take on those roles can actually be very overwhelming and stressful. I’d say they did a hell of a job on this show to give us a real look at what really happened so the world can know how messed up our minds can be.
