Former WWE Superstar John Morrison talks about the scary moment when his tag team partner Joey Mercury took a ladder to the face #wwe #wrestling #wrestlemania
@@JoeR1066I agree with the other two but not Carlito or MVP MVP might be a good talker but he's not a good Wrestler Carlito back then was a mid carder at best
@@mohabalserafe3795to be fair, Shelton wasn't the greatest talker either, and besides the gold standard, their wasn't a character of his that I could see as champ
Could not agree more. Imo the only place where he truly got to shine was in Lucha Underground. The All Night Long match with him vs Prince Puma showed that he is as talented as anybody.
He kind of reminds me of Matt hardy tbh. Just as Matt was overshadowed by Jeff, Joey was overshadowed by Johnny. Eventually people realized that they were both great in their own right but it was an uphill battle.
@MattBG67 I was meaning the results and story telling were scripted and fake. The blood they spill and the injuries they've sustained. That's 100% real 👍
We all knew joey was heel, but for him to return to the ring and the reeled highlights of the accident, only cheers for him because everyone felt horrible for him but happy he was recovering.
What absolutely breaks my mind is the fact that this incident was almost 20 years to this day. Holy shit, and it still perceives as something recent. While Armageddon 2006 was 20 years after WrestleMania 1 in 1986😮 Just put that to the perspective. And yeah, John Morrison had an incredible longevity in his career
@@hgb0005it’s really not that far off though. Still gives decent perspective on the similarity of time. 21.5 years from mania 1 to Armageddon 06, and nearly 18.5 years from armageddon 06 to mania 40. In 06, the first wrestlemania felt like an eternity ago, but things that happened in 06-07 don’t feel like they happened terribly long ago
Great comment. I think 2006 in wrestling feels like yesterday because wrestling styles haven't really changed or evolved since then. Whereas wrestling in the mid 80s was fairly slow paced, very little top rope jumping or weapons used, seldom kicking out of finishers etc - it's a dead style that feels ancient.
yeah people seem to think just because it's scripted that you can fake falling off a 16ft ladder on to a padded mat above concrete or wood. yes they fake some punches and kicks and stuff but there are moves that you literally can not fake. if people viewed it more as a tv show instead of a competitive sport then they would actually enjoy it probably.
Can't stand people that say that shit 😂 just because it's pre determined doesn't mean it's fake. All the bumps are real. Your telling a story in there period.
The Hardy Boys probably. Freakin' irresponsible. It's ok when you are risking yourself but that shit fucked up Joey Mercury pretty hard. It basically ended his career (even though he continued to wrestle)
I'm not trained in professional wrestling, but I'm pretty sure they should have put their hands up to protect their face. To me it seems like the logical thing to do, but maybe they were going for a more realistic looking spot I guess.
@@Fabi_WThey've done it before with Matt and Christian. John Morrison didn't get hurt. Of the people to take the spot, only Joey Mercury got hurt. That said, an incredibly scary situation regardless.
I was sitting in the second row at the Richmond Coliseum when this happened. I freaked out when I saw all that blood, and the little boy sitting beside me said “don’t worry it’s only ketchup…..”😂. I’ll never forget it
I got to meet John once and he was a very nice guy. I had my 80 year old grandmother with me who was a lifelong wrestling fan at a backstage meet up at a wwe show, and he took extra time to talk to her and signed autographs for both of us. I wish all wrestlers were like him, definitely was an underrated talent.
Id like to honestly thank everyone in the whole wrestling industry for giving most of us kids something to relate to others in and around our families. Times were difficult but honestly yall gave us a way not to think about all the bad crap that was going on. From the bottom of my heart thanks everyone.
I was like 7 or 8 if this was 2006 and my gosh 😮 i didnt see the PPV but watching the clips on smackdown from this match, i was speechless and knew this was not fake 😢 very painful to see and comprehend how bad Joey's nose got 😊 but an awesome moment
It was televised in Australia. I watched in on TV. The fact they tried not to show him being taken to the back told me something had happened. I still can hear the noise. You can hear bones breaking. That must have been a lot painful. Respect
I remember sitting next to Jeff Hardy and his wife at a hotel bar in Tulsa, OK. We started talking about wrestling, obviously, and I asked him about that match.
When I first got the Network I watched this show and forgot all about this match until they made their entrance. And I was like, "Oh, no, is this...this is *that* match. Fuuuuuu..."
Wow! I didn't know it blasted both of them that hard. Dancing on the Razor's Edge with those ladders. More unpredictable than chair shots as a wrestler's personally swinging those plus the awkward height & width of those ladders and you've got horrible accidents.
Y’all, this or December to Dismember was my first PPV at age 10 and I was so shocked when I saw it. I think it was the opening match too! Still has me shook!
I remember when I saw it on the Raw or Smackdown after the match; where they showed Joey Mercury's Injury on his face, and that shit made wince on his closeup. After that Injury I personally don't think I've seen shit more worse than that.
I'll never forget seeing this live. This was like the first major ladder accident. I thought to myself this is it!! The ladder finally ate someone!! That man needs facial reconstruction and they're never going to have a ladder match again.
I saw this PPV in the theatre! A friend of mine came with me, it was his first ever wrestling PPV, we were like 16 or so at the time. And he was amazed when that happened.
I still remember when Joey showed up the following week on Smackdown. Major props and the crowd cheered for him, then he got back into character again (wanting revenge on the Hardys).
I love how his thought after seeing his buddy bleeding out… “yo bro… we got a lot of stuff left!” I mean at least get injured in the final sequence! Come on Joey!
I remember seeing that live and my gut almost jumped out of my mouth seeing Joey's face getting whacked hard. Thank God he recovered from that and looking normal than before, that could've been a career killer
I remember this like it was yesterday. I was 11 or 12 watching it on tv and I just remember his face immediately started pouring like a faucet. It was wild.
@@sydneexxceasy9063 I just don't see how letting an aluminium ladder hit you in the face at that speed will ever not end terribly. I think the only thing that would have made it sensible is if they put their arm/hand up to block it.
I was watching this ppv at a bar. The entire bar went nuts when you saw that spot, then when the cameras caught him and you just saw blood everywhere, everyone was screaming.
My grandpa bought that PPV back in the day. That was one of the worst things I've seen live. I'm still amazed that mercury was able to come back from that one.
Those two were very underrated. Joey wasn’t as good but together they were amazing to watch to be honest. Just like “The Worldest Greatest Tag Team” both those guys were superstars as well
This is one of the most well-known injuries/incidents in wrestling history. Who would've thought when he woke up that morning, it'd be a life-changing day? You really never know.
I hate when people say "Wrestling is fake", because as Chris Jericho has said, It's not "fake". It's just predetermined. The outcome is predetermined, but people actually get hit and people actually get hurt. In some cases, people get hurt very badly. This was one of those cases. I'm just happy that he made it through that, because the bones in his face pretty much exploded when he got hit in the face with that ladder. It's a scary situation for sure.
