In this clip, Joey Merlino discussed his affiliation with deceased rapper Tommy Hill. Merlino, who had been in jail when Hill gained prominence as a rapper, recalled his involvement with Hill's inception into the music industry. Hill had partnerships facilitated by Merlino's network of contacts, including Steve Epstein whose wife, Linda Creed, was a renowned songwriter. Trouble ensued as Hill, while on the verge of signing with Universal, got involved in a brawl. In 2003, Hill turned informant, leading to a permanent estrangement from Merlino. Several years later, Hill was reportedly shot dead in 2011, an incident Merlino claimed he learned from the paper and knew nothing about.

He is the real deal. Notice when he got the call about the hotel room issue, he said he went down there. Didn't send a messenger or pick up another phone and just make a call. That hotel was in his neighborhood and he was always in the neighborhood. As mentioned in Goodfellas, gangsters are like cops for people that can't call the cops or don't wanna call them. The streets in cities across America are a complete mess. Violence and a lack of respect is all there is out there anymore. The government became or took over the Mafia and have done a terrible job. We all could use some improvement in each of our lives truthfully. I would never want to end up in any of the places Joey Merlino did time in over the years. I wish him and everyone the best. We all need to stay out of trouble and focus of the so called selected leaders that are always up to nothing but trouble on our dime and it needs to stop.

Tommy was a good dude. I opened up for them in like 95. When they got the universal deal they had a pool hall/barbershop at the end of my block. That's when they filmed the remix video with Nelly and them. Tommy seen me and remembered me from the show in Jersey and always showed me love.

This was a long time after he snitched and ruined his prospective career too. Apparently, Hill was killed during a botched robbery on the street when he left a spot without paying his tab, the manager stopped him outside, and Hill took out all of his money from his pockets to count and pay what he owed when a bunch of dudes stuck him up and one thing led to another. It's the most logical explanation. If someone wanted to hit him, they wouldn't have done it like that in a crowded part of the city with a bunch of people present.

To be fair, some of the biggest mafia figures historically were in the limelight, gave interviews, were on Time Magazine, etc. People think they know what a “real” gangster would do based on movies and supposed codes of honor. The Mafia hasn’t been a “secret society” for generations. In truth, Joey Merlino has been in the news for decades. He is simply making money off of his name that has already been out there for decades without actually giving up any information or even acknowledging the existence of a Mafia. IF an “alleged” gangster is already public, then it is really the best way to be is public without actually talking about anything incriminating. It’s much better than being public and told on a bunch of your colleagues to get reduced sentences, which MANY so called “real gangsters” who were previously quiet did.

If social media was like it is now back when Tommy Hill was around, he would have been a huge influencer lol. I remember when the tide stated changing and people called him a rat, and he wanted to show so hard he was still the big boss money man. He use to be at restaurants showing how he eats at high end spots. He went to some place in Atlanta acting like he was building some major studio lol.
