We just saw Joey 2 nights ago in New Buffalo, he was amazing. At 77 he shows his age but his voice remains strong and he's keeping Badfinger alive. Baby Blue is possibly my favorite song of all time, and I had a lump in my throat hearing him sing it. If I closed my eyes it was like Pete was singing it because also the backup singers nailed the sound. The rest of the Happy Together show was also great but Baby Blue completed my evening. I hope to be able to see Joey Molland perform live again!

I noticed Joey Molland exited very quickly after a quick gracious thank you. I’m guessing he meant it when he apologized and said he wasn’t feeling well. So cool how he still managed to finish No matter what, strong. I didn’t realize till I checked out Joey’s Bad Finger, what great vocalist he truly is, as well. I had the good luck of meeting his brother in a barber shop in my home town. Luckily the line up was long so had a good chat. I play guitar and the fellow next him asked him if he’d been playing much guitar lately, so I asked him if he played a lot. He said, well I used to back in England, in the pubs and universities, but my brother was much better, I don’t know if you know Badfinger? I’m my jaw dropped. I happened to be on a huge Badfinger kick at the time. The young barber hadn’t heard of them by name and he and I sang a verse of No Matter what to her. Which she recognized right away. Not to drone on to long here, but I got the chance to have an email exchange with Joey and he was super gracious. In fact he sent a second email when my response was slow...was a little star struck and was over thinking what to say. He always seemed nice in interviews, I would say he is very genuine and his brother sure was nice. 👀 big moment for this fan....

A band with a lot of talent and interest with it, played at Concert For Bangladesh, had George Harrison and todd Rundgren as producers, Paul McCartney wrote "Come and Get it", I feel for this band, get upset and want to cry to learn of the bands problems. Thanks for posting this Joey and Band were cooking id love to see him play and sing. Better yet spend about a week learning guitar and songwriting and harmonies its so cool to see real music and what pros. Nillson tune was no easy piece to sing much less play and sing nor the others always loved the bEaTlEs and Badfinger they were gonna be the closest thing id get to see something like that I missed the beatles also born in 61 and grew up singing this music wore it out I give them credit for teaching me pitch and to sing, Joeys tone reminds me of Bill Nelson who is also a great musician and Rocker. Id mow yards to see his pedal setup there and know what pickups are in that burst. Hey Joey show me how its done sir..

Joey Molland is the only original member of Badfinger still living. He was in the luckiest and unluckiest band ever! Lucky, in that they got to play backing up the Beatles and recording at Abbey Road. And Macca even gave them a hit song he wrote. They have several million selling hits including the monster seventies hit Without You. I personally still like Day After Day and Baby Blue the best. Unlucky because they got no Royalties from their hit songs because their manager embezzled their money and disappeared. Tom Evans the lead singer couldn’t support his family and hung himself in the seventies. Then the bass player Pete did the same thing a few years later. So the band was finished then. But they made some great music. RIP Tom and Pete and Mike

It's a blessing and a curse to be forever linked with the Beatles...their several well-known hits are hardly representative of the bands' depth, nope. Pete was a world class slide guy, and as you can see Joey's no slouch, Tommy not only wrote, but doubled on bass and guitar, and Mike's as solid as they come. Shit, George Harrison picked these guys as his backing band, c'mon. They could really 'kick out the jams' on stage, somewhat similar to the Allman Bros or the Dead, going on for 10 + minutes frequently, certainly a far cry from the sugary pop of "Come and Get It" which is obviously a McCartney number A tragedy of greed for the ages, you go Joe....

Can’t see his face, but seeing the top of his head, I’d say that’s John Richardson. Has his own studio for drums. He toured with Joey for years, then went on to tour for several more years with the Gin Blossoms. In my estimation, an excellent drummer! Mark Healey has also toured with Joey for decades. Steve Wonzy and Nilly David joined more recently and were excellent additions to the band. Unfortunately, Billy succumbed to brain cancer a few treats back, but Steve successfully best the cancer he was fighting. Have known Joey since 1971. All great, great fellows and musicians.

@@Babybluecary im in Texas play guitar and try to sing Born in 61 missed the Beatles and Badfinger but was just working on singing with this show to see if I could and its still there. I would very much like to know what Joeys setup pedal and guitar wise was this day and what pickups and year that burst is.. Best Neck tone since Bill Nelson what ever those pickups are id like to know. I would like to See Joey on Rick Beatos channel someone should be speaking to him about songwriting and gear and playing hes a great player and singer. That music is timeless I was gutted the Beatles broke up and really double fucked when Badfinger got screwed. Im the guitar player of the family though and it does matter. Give anything to jam and sing with Joey like to ask him his influences and where he learned to play... It would be great to see how the tunes are played correctly I see some of it but also gear amp guitar all of it matters to get that sound. Think I hear a good old phaser on that also. I never use one but hes using it on that neck pickup and with some dirt kinda mixes between that and a chorus type sound or univibe throb .. Ill be 60 in April ive been listening and singing to Badfinger since the 60s id love to see an in depth interview with Joey about song writing and showing how to play the tunes correctly and explaining the harmonies vocally over the guitar parts. Thats Genius stuff I know Pete wrote that but all the great guitar parts Joey played. Id love to know the tunes correctly and work on the vocals like band camp. Ill look at this again see what hes playing or where on the neck that is. Great thank you

Where was this show recorded? I saw him that summer, I'm certain.

Somewhere near Chicago, IL. I don't recall the venue. Badfinger actually opened for an Aerosmith cover band.

It was supposed to be "Rock of All Ages" but they clearly had some problems playing it. That's a tough one to sing for sure!

Poor Joey probably got sick from the mix.. Whoever was running sound did a bad job. Vocals too dry, too 'mid-high'' etc. No depth which causes the vocals to be 'harsh' and the singer(s) try to make up for it by 'overpowering notes' ( reaching ) and it's obvious his voice was getting beat up, no doubt from a stage monitor mix that was just as bad...

No Matter What was way too fast...sounds rushed.

As I said in the description, Joey was sick by the end of the show and promptly ran off the stage after No Matter What and threw up. No encore because of that.

was just listening to a live version from '74, which was also a faster tempo than the original. It's a matter of having heard the original a gazillion times, that makes this seem rushed.

Joey looks like he was feeling pain when he was playing No Matter What. Gritting his teeth at whatever it was. Good show though.
