Arya's List of names is because Yoren (the guy who was taking her to Winterfell for her dad) told her the story of Willam, the boy who had killed his brother when he was younger. He said he couldnt remember what his brother even looked like but he could remember Willams face clear as day because of the rage he had for the guy. He said he would repeat his name every night before bed until he killed Willam. Now Arya has a list of people she wants to kill and repeats the names every night before she goes to sleep. Hope this helps clear up your confusion on why she was repeating those names!

@garrett2001 is putting it concisely. The list of names of the people she will kill (in her mind, she will get vengeance!) is what gives her some peace, so it is her comfort prayer. Yoren mentions that saying Willem's name over and over became like a prayer to him. And so it has become for Arya.

Arya is repeating the names every night before she goes to bed because of the story she was told (I think last episode?) by the Night's watchman who was taking her north. He told a story about how every night when he laid down for bed he would repeat the name of the guy who killed his brother, almost as though he was saying a prayer. Now Arya is doing the same thing where she is listing all of the people who have wronged her/she wants to kill like a little prayer every night when she goes to bed.

Your comments about Arya and her repeating the names, it was a callback to a couple episodes before when Yoren was telling her the story of getting revenge for his brother’s death. There’s more to it also, let’s just say it’s part of Aryas character arch.

Yes it was at Ned Stark's execution where Yoren tried to comfort Arya, by retelling the pitfalls of his own story, but only for Arya to do the same and yearn for revenge against those who wronged her.

A good general rule of thumb in all visual media. If you have to think about something specific on screen and try hard to figure it out, you're overthinking it. If it's written well, things tend to be obvious. Obvious in the sense of a an epiphany or a "dawns on you" kind of moment. Best to just understand that it's not yet explained and just wait for it to happen. So far you have overthought everything. Sorry I mean that in the nicest way. It just sounds so rude and dry over text D: I'd say allow yourself to just absorb and go with the flow of the show more than try to dissect every little thing because it'll all come together for the most part. Love all your reactions, keep it up

@@davidward9737she doesn’t pay good enough attention. Case in point, the scene with Yoren talking about Willam happened at the end of the episode right before this one, but she can’t figure out why Arya is saying the names.

@@strangebotwin- I suspect she is often thinking of something else when she should be paying attention. I think she is trying to pay attention but her mind is easily distracted. Or, she is putting pressure on herself to try and figure out things that she isn't suppose to figure out yet. Then she gets stuck on that thing and mises the obvious stuff. She is missing a lot of things almost every other reactor catches. Not only that, even without her remembering what Yoren said, it's easy enough to figure out why she is saying the names. I think this because out of nowhere she says something like, Jon Snow is one of her favorites but he isn't even in this episode. I think she clearly was trying to think of characters she liked instead of watching the show. LOL.

Arya is repeating the names of people she wants to kill. She's been doing it since Yoren told her the story of how he would repeat the name of the man that killed his brother until he killed him. Tywin has no idea what Arya Stark looks like. He does not know that's her.

Arya Stark has a vengeance story, which is why she repeats names every night before she goes to sleep. My favorite characters were Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen or Dani or Khaleesi or Mother of Dragons.. whatever you want to call her because she gets more names. I just don't want any spoilers.

Magic has been in this series right from episode 1 when we saw our first White Walker and witnessed dead people move again. Arya saying aloud the people she wants to kill is giving her purpose…do you think anyone is listening to her??? 😜 Little Finger prides himself on his mastery of manipulation and although he has always been obsessed with Catelyn, you can see him at that moment realizing that his plan to have her is not going to come to fruition…and he alters his plan to coincide with current facts. You can almost seeing the cogs turning in his head. Great reaction as always ❤

Yep, we know what you mean. Those things are meant to trigger you and to make you angry, to strengthen your feelings about situations and characters. One of the best things about this show is the emotion it invokes. 5:24 - She's not saying Joffrey is great, this scene sort of highlights the "Game" in the title. Lords take their people to war over the things they're concerned about, justly or not, when common folk just want to live in piece. We see Joffrey from the perspective of the Starks mostly, so not everyone shares that take. Furthermore, she's right...not having a transition plan for a war has been very bad in many cases historically. You get the bad ruler out, but who replaces them? Many times it's someone worse or less competent and it puts the country in a worse position.

Tyrion is one of the better (if not one of the best) characters in this show, he's very clever always thinking about how events are currently playing out and tries to plan ahead based on that. That 'dementor' was the 'son' she said she would give Stannis, she's using it to further Stannis' kingly ambition.

The only reason Lord Tywin sent Tyrion to be acting Hand of the King is because he figures since Joffrey took Ned's head, Jaime is as good as dead. So, as much as Lord Tywin loathes Tyrion, he is the only son he has left.

Melisandre has magical abilities, but only because they are granted to her from the Lord of Light. They are more religious boons and gifts than magical powers, though they look the same. Remember that she is a priestess... The night is dark and full of terrors.... there is only one god, the Lord of Light... all of that... She draws powers from LoL. Recall also that she told Stannis (the mean "king" wannabe...) that she would bear him a son. She got pregnant as a result of them having relations. This is the product of that tryst. As for Tyrion, he has a truly genius intellect and can argue circles around most folks. He is great with relating to people as well; a byproduct of a life spent defending himself with the only tools available to him... his brain and information! As for Tywin (Mr. Lannister) sending Tyrion to be the hand, it was only because he could not trust Joffrey nor Cersei to defend King's Landing should the need arise. At least, after all, Tyrion was smart. So Tywin sent him.

Jimini Effin Christmas…every fuxkin comment is about Arya’s name repetitions. Does no one read any comments before commenting??🙄 Arya, Tyrion, and Varys were my favorite characters in the series from the beginning. They’re all very different on the surface (an innocent little girl, a promiscuous drunk, and a virtuous eunuch), but also very similar in many ways. That’s all I want to say without giving anything away. I loved this show, even the last season, which a lot of people whine about. I only wish it lasted longer. They wrapped things up rather quickly relative to the time they took telling the rest of the story.

Arya Stark is my favorite character of the entire show. Just keep watching. Even in the second season, don't worry about feeling lost at all. I've seen this entire series through at least 5 times, not to mention how many reactors i watch watch it. And every. single. time. i still see or hear something i didnt catch before.

On your Arya comments post-episode: You're not wrong on Arya disassociating. In the show you don't get in Arya's head as much you do in the books. But the jest of it is that by the time Arya gets to Harrenhall with her companions, she's already on 10 or so nicknames. Arya Horseface (What Sansa's friend called her) Arya Underfoot (What the Winterhold guards called her) Arry (Same as in the Show) Lumpyhead (Name given by Lommy) Lumpyface (Name accidentally given by Hot-Pie) Stickboy (Rorge catches on and names her this) Rabbitkiller (Rorge later adds this) Sheep and Mouse (Because she feels Powerless Arya calls herself that in Harrenhall) Weasel (And uses this as alias inside Harrenhall) Nymeria or Nan for short (In the books Tywin doesn't enter Harrenhall, Arya calls herself this to the new person in charge) So, yeah she's in one hell of a bad situation. I wish the show would've shown that off better.

Arya is repeating those names before bed because in the previous episode, the recruiter for the Night's Watch told her that he maintained his rage and survived years by repeating the name of the guy he needed to get revenge on, saying it every night before bed over and over, until he saw him again and swung his axe into the guy's skull. She is repeating her Kill List. That shadow creature was the "son" of Stannis, which the Red Woman just gave birth to... that's why she seduced him: so she could birth a royal demon that potentially has the royal power to slay royals.

As mentioned by another, the Night's Watchman taking her north (with the group heading to The Wall) told her every night when he went to bed he would say the name of the guy who murdered his brother. Arya is doing the same but her list of people she wants to kill keeps growing. If you think Joffrey is bad, you will see someone worse in the future. I fast forward through his bad scenes whenever I re-watch the show.

P so I know you've said quite a few times how the sexual stuff bothers you and I get it. But I hope in this episode you see why a lot of it is important and it is done for a reason. Like when the red witch and stannis had sex you were like. What's the point of this? I don't understand why is she doing it, now you see in this episode the fruit of that. Almost all of the sexual stuff is done for a reason to explain character. The first episode with Jamie and cersei. That shows who they are. And more and more stuff will make sense in later episodes.

The nurse woman who questioned Rob had every right to be snarky and snappy with him. Thousands of innocent men are dying fighting for him (they didnt know Ned so even if Lanisters did him sirty, why should the average person care? ) and giving up everything and he dosent have a plan to what to do with the establishment after he 'destroys' it?

I think the woman who was talking to Robb has a point. If Joffrey is killed it creates a power vaccum. And could create even more chaos. Not to mention someone even worse could sit the throne. While he is horrible, he is a petulant child, and can in the end be controlled by the right people and figures if you think about it. If let's say, a full grown adult were in his place, and were just as sadistic as him, that would be far worse.

If you're going to overthrow a king you should probably have a plan for afterwards. Joffrey sucks but he only sucks to the people next to him. Thousands of people are dying because if a family feud essentially. If I'm some just peasant what do I care about how shitty Joffrey is? How would I even Know?
