This still gives me chills on the 1000th listening. Johannson was such a unique composer, I will always be indebted to him.

I remain in awe of this piece and indeed the Miners' Hymns album and film. Many of my family were miners in Stoke on Trent and also in County Durham. This piece was performed at Durham Cathedral. My grandfather, a Methodist local preacher, gave the sermon in the cathedral at the Miners Gala in the early 1950's.

There's still a few of us Union types up here in Co Durham, Alun. Some of us remember our industrial heritage and how it was taken away, leaving swathes of the region poor. I'll never forget the miners sacrifice and their exploitation at the hands of capitalist.

@@comeonyouyellows Thatcher's legacy is felt throughout the mining communities but few people seem to appreciate that what she did had an impact that has affected generations. The miners strike was a last ditch attempt to stop her. What we have now is her legacy. An incompetent bunch of ex-Eton privileged wankers intent on wrecking workers rights for increased profits for billionaires. I have come to loath the Tories with a vengeance.
