Johann Strauss I - Sorgenbrecher,Walzer Op.230 

Beautiful Waltz and Beautiful Interpretation

Bravissimi. Musicologists recognize Joh. Strauß senior's style only by a few popular works which made him famous. Composers of dance music (his sons Johann II & Josef, Offenbach or P.I.Tchaikovsky), 'borrowed' some of his tunes. The 2nd theme of 'Sorgenbrecher' was used by Josef, slihgtly changed, in his "Delirien" waltz. Moreover, the 3rd theme,(which reappears once more before the coda), is identical to the 2nd theme of the waltz from the coda of the ballet "Nutcracker"(1892), by Tchaikovsky, (just before the 'apotheosis'). This waltz, op.230, marked the composer's last creative period, along with his 2 famous 'Freiheitsmarsch' & ' Radetzky-Marsch'. It was the time of the 1848 revolution and the victorious military campaign against Piemonte. Unfortunately, a year later J. Strauß died of a sudden illness at the age of 45.
