That dude playing cello is Osmo Ikonen, a songwriter and a true multi instrumentalist. He sings and plays cello, violin, drums, keyboards, guitar, bass etc. pretty much anything you'll throw in his direction.
It's a show were artists perform a song that somebody requested for a specific person (in this case the couple in the audience, where one did the requesting and one is the recipient). Tarja has done this show too and performed Walking in the Air with the man who originally performed the song as a little boy for The Snowman. I recommend watching it if it's on youtube. Btw, this song was actually written by another musical couple (Lauri Ylönen from The Rasmus and Paula Vesala) who are no longer together. I recommend checking their music out too.
Such a beautiful song. Thank you!! The song was made by other two Famous finnish singers, Lauri Ylönen and Paula Vesala. They dated a while a long time ago. Lauri is known as the lead singer of the famous Finnish rock band the Rasmus (quite known in Europe especially). You might know their song In the Shadows since that one also reached North America. When it came out (early 2000's) it was everywhere. Paula Vesala is mainly known only in Finland. She was in a band called PMMP. It was hugely popular about 15-20 years ago (now they are making a come-back and everyone is going nuts XD) After that she started her succesful solo career. But I think Paula is mostly known as a really good songmaker and writing lyrics.
I've always thought Johanna looks like some kind of fae or elf. There’s just something ethereal about her: both looks wise and her voice. And this is an incredibly beautiful song. As many others have said this performance is from a tv program where you could request a song that is somehow important to you and your loved one. They would tell the story of why that song is so important to them and often the stories were very emotional and touching. I’d imagine that’s why the woman is crying. My favourites from Johanna are Ehkä ensi elämässä (maybe in the next life) and Veitsenterällä (On the knife's edge). Her cover of Häävalssi (Wedding waltz) by a famous Finnish singer Tapio Rautavaara is also lovely.
Many years ago I was working at a horse breed farm here in Sweden. I was the only Swede at one time, the rest working was from Finland. Likely because they worked harder than most Swedes. I did pretty much everything on the farm except taking care of horses which mostly the finns did. One day in the tractor one of the finns left all his CDs when moving. One was Johanna Kurkela, I just put it in because, well she looked good and I have loved this song ever since. Cannot say I understand much but it brings back memories of interesting people and driving around the tracks or fields of the farm listening to this one. I really miss that time...
In my opinion, Johanna is the best female singer in Finland. Her voice is amazing and there´s always so much passion when she sings. Her christmas songs with a couple of the Raskasta Joulua singers are amazing.

They might have a certain song that is important to them or a song by a singer or a band that have meaningful lyrics. And They are performed by the singer or the band as a surprise. And before that They tell their story and then show the surprise. Its a heartwarming show. Ive seen Johanna three times. 2 basic shows and one of her christmas show. Cried three times. Only Johanna song I listen to that is always on my playlist, unless you count A Lifetime of Adventure from Tuomas album. This song is cool and hooked me right away, although I'm not a fan of Johanna's voice, with a very narrow vocal range.
Tuomas and Johanna started dating in 2009 and married in october 2015. They are keeping their relationship quite private and they do not give any interviews about it. Johanna released her first album in 2005.
