The WDR BIG BAND, featuring Jakob Bänsch on trumpet and Johanna Summer on piano, performs "Invitation" by Bronislaw Kaper. The arrangement is by Michael Abene, who also leads the WDR BIG BAND. Recorded as part of the "Youngcats II" concert at the WDR Funkhaus (April 2023).
Promoting young talent at its best: In its "Young Cats" concerts, the WDR Big Band presents exceptional young talent from the German jazz scene. This time it's pianist Johanna Summer and trumpeter Jakob Bänsch. Both were members of the Bundesjazzorchester, the world's only talent factory for future professional jazz musicians, and have already played alongside numerous jazz greats such as Jiggs Whigham, Django Bates, Bob Mintzer and Jim Snidero. And with their own formations they have long since made a name for themselves - despite their young age: impulsive and exceptionally creative.
