Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist's first book is a vampire story like no other: Let the Right One In. It was made into a brilliant film of the same name. Here the author talks about the book, and even throws in a couple of coin tricks...

He says the bullies in the book are based on real people who used to bully him... it just goes to show, don't mess with a future bestselling author!

This guy is a genius and a little sick, but that's what makes this book so good.

I had heard that he named the bullies after his own childhood bullies, but had trouble verifying it until I came across this video. I felt so happy for him when he said, "It was a great joy to write that scene," with that cheeky and satisfied smile on his face.

Just finished the book two days ago. I just could not take my eyes off it. The plot was outstanding and the characters inside the book really makes you feel attached to them. Two thumbs up!!!! Outstanding work of literature.

Man I love your book. Wow, your book is way more graphic than the movie. Great amazing writing. I love the nuance to the whole thing.

His English is amazing. I expected to have to read subtitles on this interview. And he's funny; I thought he'd be sort of surly and serious, after reading the book it seems completely surprising that this bubbly guy wrote such a disturbing and isolated story. A credit to his talent.

Apparently if John ever chooses to make a sequel to Let the Right One In, it would be called 'Until My Mouth Dries'.

@MaggieCredits- His creativity is mindblowing in so many ways. When I first saw this clip of him I jumped up and down. I didn't know he spoke English and he does it so well. He inspires me (as a writer myself) and I wish he'd come to California to do a book tour or speaking engagement.

I saw the 2008 movie first, then I read the book, because I had a confused feeling about the movie. I don't really love Alfredson's ambiguous movie ending. I closed Eli and Oskar in my heart, for eternity. Thankyou for the Let the old dreams die!

So how did Eli get emasculated? Funny how Lina referred to her character as a "she". I don't think the actors were method acting on homoerotic thoughts...

Read the book. A Vampire baron of her village collected all the boys and she was castrated and her drank and ate of the flesh. The wound was burned to close. She was then turned later on in his bedroom.

Movies are WAY better. Hate this book, except for the fact that it inspired the movies. Too much pedophia. Two he ruined it by making Eli a castrated boy. Three it is a jumbled mess that relies too much on shock value and wasn't focused enough. Skip this truly inferior book and just watch the films which are amazing!
