Except they ended up splitting up on the first floor, which allowed the main assailant to have direct access to the stairs and then access to the principal. They had a fatal funnel with the staircase that they could have taken advantage of. I get Tim's comments about them potentially setting a fire, but they already had backup on the way and I doubt that could have materialized before backup arrived.
I think their compatibility as partners was exactly why Grey didn't make Tim the TO for Nolan. Tim wouldn't have sat still for Grey's abuse and attempting to force Nolan out in the beginning.

@@danielhaire6677 Honestly I think Nolan would've been fine with any of the TO's assigned to him. That being said, Chen needed Tim to kick her ass a bit and give her a reality check. She's too smart for her own good sometimes, and too nice. Same thing with Jackson. He needed Lopez. Bishop was a square, she'd have bounced his ass day 1, and Tim would've clashed with Jackson too much since Jackson thinks he already knows everything because his daddy told him so, but his Dad hasn't ridden patrol in 20+ years. Tim needs to be the font of wisdom, and Jackson constantly second guessing shit would drive him insane.
I love how Nolan leads the hitman on by asking how much he’s willing to pay them to walk away and Bradford never once bats an eye. That speaks volumes for Bradford’s respect for Nolan.
The two are badass in this show, but props for the hitman who took a bullet to the chest and didn't even fall over, just mentions "ouch" even with a vest.

Nolan was ready to rock there. Put one right into that guys chest, no hesitation. I'm sure he figured the guy was wearing a vest, but still, takes stones to stamp one right into someone's heart like that from point blank.
Nathan Fillion is a BRILLIANT ACTOR. His calm and smooth delivery just has so much AUTHORITY but also smooth and calming effect. He can delivery any line and either make it profound or comedic. I think there are few actors in Hollywood who can speak like Fillion, especially in this sort of 'peacemaker' role.
I love the bosses roll to the eyes on that. Makes you wonder if real life mob bosses detest the Batman franchise due to everyone in RL wanting to be Batman given his more realistic approach in the arts. They bought time for the backup to arrive. Blowing the element of surprise like that would start an immediate engagement. Police officers are taught to use their mind. From their point of view, this was the best choice of engagement they could've chosen to reach their goal.
