Thanks John. I could listen to you for hrs. I've been making my own baits for about 8 years now . I have suffered a lot of blanks but it's worth it . It's a side of angling that not many people do themselves but when you get it right it's a wonderful feeling. I've caught fish from rainbow and Lac du Der in France plus the north met in the UK on home made bait. Take care and keep these video's coming.
what a fantastic part 1 and part 2, this i can watch and listen to for days on end wow Mr Baker just amazing THANK YOU so so much really appreciate the time and effort you have put in to share with us.
John you have probably forgotten more about bait making than I will ever know. Brilliant advice. Much respect for keeping Rods secrets. Used his Scopex no 1 for years. Also loved his “ secret agent” flavour and did very well on that. Now I wonder if you helped with that too...very urgent and meaty!
Fantastic idea bringing out the 8ml flavour vials. Been wondering why companies haven't done this before. Great products and great videos, keep them coming!
Brilliant, bought back many memories, mentioning people like Hutchy and Kempy when it all started in the 70s. We used to have to travel from Kent to The Watford Carp Cellar to get our base mix ingredients and then get our flavours from the above mentioned
Bush Boake & Allen , now there’s a blast from the past. Believe Bait 78 sold flavours that came from there ? Right on my doorstep , l’m a Chingford boy. Great insight John, love the RH references, he was always my inspiration, thanks 👍
Been chopping and changing readymade baits for a few years now and decided to start making my own next season after watching your videos . I did a small order yesterday of some taste f2 base mix and some chicken tikka and asm to knock some up just in case the restrictions are lifted and I can travel to the river before the season ends but once I can get back on the river properly I’ll be experimenting with more of your range
John enjoying your vide. I cut my teeth at Weald fishing alongside Geoff K , buying flavours from Unbar Rothon & reading things like Mike Pawson's work on aminos etc. Stopped making my own bait eventually when commercialy available products improved enough. If you keep this up I might even dip my toe into the bait conundrum again. More power to your elbow sir.
Great videos John, we spoke recently via email, used your baits in the past, one recipe was the best bait I've ever used,im getting back into doing a bit more time on the bank, so will be coming back to you very soon, Alan.
Nice to see you bringing more products to market. I think there’s a bit of a renaissance in people wanting to make their own bait, and there’s definitely a gap in the market for a high quality additives and flavours.
Great expert and honest series of videos! I remember you as a precocious teenager telling me off for fishing with closed bail arms at a certain Essex club water (I was sitting over my rods fishing for twitchers!). 😉
Hi David, I’ve said that to a lot of people in my time but not since the hairrig was invented. I’m still critical of other anglers so no change there. Thanks for the feedback, John
These blogs are awesome John. I wonder how many anglers, out there, have bottles of flavour umpteen years out of date, believing, they are still viable. Made me think.
I remember ringing up John on buying flavours like the plum and got some advice from him back in 95 about a base mix I was using and catching lots of fish on it. he advised me to cut one ingredient down which was high in vitamin and mineral content it was cod liver oil supplement. once I did the bait became a lot more firm. but before that the fish were shiting it out as they were eating it and so on .technically great but it was a soft bait and you couldn't use it in a throwing stick .. a great watch enjoy listing
Hi John, Really enjoying the videos. We first met in a plumbing outlet on the Eley industrial estate, early Bait 78 days before they had the shop in Chingford.wow! Where did all those years go?.Keeps the Video coming👍
@@johnbakerbaits9108 no problem, great video and a very popular subject, which I hope you elaborate on,there's an awful gap in bait discussions, especially basemix formulation and flavour construction
If the carp eat more than 6 boilies with vodka in them they cannot swim in a straight line and have to find some black coffee boilies to get rid of their hangovers!!!
The guys knowledge is second to none I know he was connected to the late rod Hutchinson and had a hand in some of rods great flavours before he even said get him talking base mix you want to
Have used your products over years , and have just received latest shellfish and ala Salar , and plum , and I have a vitamin /amino acid product I got from Jason Ryder who you may know , and wondered if I can include this in my hookbaits
Great video with So much information. Looking forward to having a bash at making some Barbel baits in the summer. Subscribed and will check out your website. 👍🎣
The man of vast kowledge. John, would you advise on reccomended amounts to use in say making pop ups or per kilo of bait ? If I was to purchase 3 smaller bottles . Love the vids. 😊😊
Check out my website, it's done on the size and number of eggs as explained in my previous yt clips. Typically the absolute maximum amount flavour you would use to 1 egg for pop ups would be 1 ml depending on the flavour.
They are a bit too concentrated in general but there are some you can use if you dilute them with lake water. I also sell two great additives which are popular with match anglers and thats liquid bio shellfish and particle punch, both of which are made from natural products - theyre ideal for ground bait. Cheers
Another interesting video. Quick question. I live in suffolk, an area with very 'hard' water. Does this have any impact on the flavours? Would a particular base be more effective?
You may find a high calcium bait good, such as bio shellfish which is high in calcium. In terms of flavours try a combination like ala Salar and plum. Or roast chicken and maple. JB
Been asked specifically about bun spice a lot.... I'll look into it. I have Peach coming out very soon which I've put a lot of time and development into. Thanks, JB
Great videos, hi attract hook baits have been a must for me not the edge they used to be though but have done well on your milky1 I noticed you don't mention n butyric acid what are your thoughts on it and recognisable / blown flavours?
Butyric goes in my cheese flavours along with two other organic acids. I don’t rely on just using one single aroma ingredient, most of my Flavours contain over 25 aroma ingredients
Would you not use it with your fruit and milky flavours then? I found it an advantage with tutti flavours but I tend to add 6 drops to most hook baits but haven't fish with and without side by side
