Out of Africa film theme, by John Barry. Chamber Orchestra of New York; Salvatore Di Vittorio, Music Director. This is the original version, orchestrated by John Barry. Performed live on May 10, 2012 at Merkin Concert Hall, New York, NY. Mrs. Laurie Barry (wife), and Mr. Alec Baldwin were in the audience for this New York performance.

John Barry's music is superb. I have been listening to John Barry's music for years. One can really experience Africa through his music.

I Loove loove this theme of the film "Out of Africa", film with Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. I cry every time I see the film. This is the most beautiful theme I ever heard for a film, it goes perfect with the film which is one of my favorite films ever. The music fills my hear with love, sadness and joy all at once. The film is full of passion and beauty. Thank you so much for this magnificent music!!

As others have noted this masterpiece of composition evokes the majesty and grandeur of all that Africa means and is, the vast landscapes, incredible wildlife and of course the poignancy of a love story combined. It is true magic brought to life by marvelous musicians who play as Barry would have been so proud. In tears thank you for posting this gem of musicianship at its very finest.....

goose bumps. I have played this so many times in different places in the world, at work, not at work, inside, outside on my own, with others, too loud in my I-pod, so very quietly in my i-pod. One of the finest modern music pieces to go with the most amazing film.

That was good. Good tempo and plenty of room for the music breathe. Mr. Di Vittorio took his time and didn't rush. The orchestra responded. Nicely done. John Barry would be proud.

When Sydney Pollack had Temp'd music into Out of Africa...Pollack showed it to John Barry...All the music was what Barry had done in the past...Born Free, The Last Valley, Zulu...But when Pollack ask John Barry what he thought...Barry said..I believe that would be the wrong kind of music...You have a love story here. So off Barry went to write a love story soundtrack to Out of Africa.

Not sure I'd agree. Arrangement might be better but brass of the BBC Concert Orchestra sounded smoother - I speak as a wind player - who's played with that orchestra!

I have watched this numerous times tonight. It’s very clear who stole the show. She was the only one who displayed her emotion. I don’t know why she kept on looking down. But it doesn’t matter. What amazing artists they all are but that girl to the right of the conductor blew my mind. (I used to be a musician btw)
