I always liked his work for the loose painting style, realism, semi abstract detail, and the often dramatic colors and composition. His artwork is certainly very unique. He is one of giants of sci-fi illustration.
Seriously, you can compare Berkey's artworks with many 3d rendered paintings today, and his works still hold up beautifully. That's just how good he is.

Thank you for this. Some look cg assisted like 3:16 (even though they aren't) . I like how even the impractical or irrational looking ships ask us to imagine a totally different set of constraints that might guide our design priorities in the future. Also I can tell you're a musician.
