Similar to stairways tempo changes, I think the band is just really, really in sync. I think part of their genius was they all felt time the same way, which is really rare. Usually, to keep time, a band has to stay in lock step with the drummer. I think they all played off each other
@@SmellyCheeseBro I'd add that, it sounds like Bonham kind of wandered around in the beginning until he found a groove he was happy with and then just sat there for the rest of the song. I noticed he does this on Kashmir as well.
I think Bonham would slow Page down a lot. Page tended to play a little rushed sometimes when he got excited and Bonham always guarded the laid back feel and pulled them back with him. This is pretty obvious at the beginning of the HTWWW version of Heartbraker, also on the album version even.
You should create a separate channel dedicated to Bonham isolated tracks. And then some others... like Zappa drummers. You will do very well. Mark my words. ✌
I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, that the drums played here are exactly the same as the original track, down to the smallest grace note, as I have listened, studied and played this track for nearly 50 years. So he could either play the track 100% the same or it’s is. Just saying…. Thanks for posting. ¡Faberoony!
Bonzo didn't seem to get much credit for his very fine touch. He would fan the snare drum with one hand or both, & it sounded like a consistently smooth (Shhhhhhhh...), like gently tearing a piece of the highest quality composition paper. Smoother than Silk!
