If anyone is trying to do what I've been doing for hours on end and is trying to figure the song out for themselves from the video, what he is playing here is the tuning of DADGCE and a capo on 6th fret, then u want to make a c chord shape but remove the index finger and place the pinkie on the 3rd fret away from the capo on the high E string. The second chord is played like an f major chord but move the index finger down one string to the E string. Then the 3rd and final chord is played with your middle finger on the second fret of the D string and your ring finger on the third fret of the g string. The picking pattern is very simple it may take a few attempts but is easy to get the hang of after practising for a while. The picking pattern for the first chord is playing the A string by its own then the two high strings (C,E) together at the same time using your picking hands index and middle finger.
For the next two chords the picking pattern is similar but the instead of playing the A string first you will now have to play the D string first but the two high strings are both the same for all the chords. The way you play the song is do the plucking thing twice for all the chords. Please note these instructions are for this acoustic version not for the original recording. A cool little thing to do which John actually does is on the first chord when you do the pick thing two times on the second time you do it take your pinkie off and play the second time like that and see how it sounds, only do this when your confident with the chords, and picking pattern though. Hope this helped :)
