I met John Candy in 1985 during the making of Summer Rental. I was a 16 year old kid, and he could not have been nicer. He took some time out of his schedule to talk about life with me. I'll never forget him. Great man.

I had no any trouble believing that, because my father and I met him in a dream I had the other night - he and my father quickly hit it off, but I had an aneurysm from the overwhelming shock of meeting John Candy in person, and the two drove me to the hospital. When I came to, I mumbled some sort of an apology, but he calmed me down, though. We all hugged each other - he was very soft and huggable

If John Candy was still alive, he would've been amazing on all Wes Anderson's movies. RIP sweet prince, John :(

Wow what a condescending interviewer. Why talk about his body image instead of the movie.

Appallingly insensitive interviewer! Right from the opening question. Candy was so classy in his polite replies. What a great guy,

Keep in mind, not too many people were big like that back then. It wasn't that common. Most of us knew the ONE fat kid in school. 40 years later we're all fat and sick in this country and still no one wants to hear a single negative word about it. We sacrifice our bodies, quality of life and health (and our children's' for that matter) to spare our feelings. When you embrace unhealthiness as a nation, you breed a nation of unhealthy people. And that is exactly what we've done. Cue the virulent snowflake backlash.

Wow how times have changed! That interviewer should have been fired. I loved John Candy, grew up watching his movies. Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors are my favourite movies! Such a genuine man. RIP Candy.

This and the interview with that woman from Nebraska State Historical society currently over there on the right make me cringe and I remember watching interviews like this when he was alive, and these interviewers are clueless about how much they were hurting him - they assume he just sits around pigging out with a big smirk on his face - SO CRUEL - he really did try, he went to Pritikin, he was always up and down with it, it was incredibly hard for him and he obviously had slow metabolism and genes working against him on top of that - why focus on the physical and focus on him instead - he was so smart and talented and sweet - this world could use a lot more Candy

Yes, it is horrible, but it also reflected the times. Back in the early 1980s there weren't really all that many visibly obese people in society, certainly nothing compared with today. For many people, it was almost a curiosity, an exoticism. Of course, on top of that the entertainment industry has always been an image-obsessed industry. I was a little kid in those times, but I still remember how often people who would be considered only moderately heavy by today's standards were frequently openly ridiculed. It honestly just wasn't well understood.

What a horrendous interviewer. He looked hot no matter what and what a comedic talent. Dammit, missing you John Candy. Thank God we'll always have his films ❤

Yes, no fooling, with those dimpled cheeks, bright, expressive brown eyes, button nose, sweet smile, and locks of wavy golden blonde hair - maybe Bobbi was impressed upon seeing that John had a naturally handsome appearance despite his weight

Bobbie Wygant usually does terrific interviews. But this one is a bit unfair, you can see how uncomfortable John is with the questions about his weight.

Great to see these clips of the Stripes cast at the time the movie was released but my goodness I second all those that comment in each of the clips about how awful the host/interviewer is. How this woman ended up in this position is beyond me.
