John is such a cool dude. I met him his rookie year when I was a valet in Atlanta and had no idea who he was yet. We had a casual basketball conversation after I commented on his height before I looked up at him like “I know you hoop” and he was like “yeah, a little.” Naturally, I ask where and he tells me he plays for the Hawks so I go on to ask as many 2k questions as I could before he left and he was just as excited to answer as I was excited to ask.
That sounds about right. I’ve never heard a single bad thing about him in terms of his personality and interactions with fans. Love having him on the Hawks!
John is the best. I remember meeting him at a season ticket holder bowling event two seasons ago. He started at the far end and chatted with every single lane for 5+ minutes. And at each lane he'd instantly fit in and become the life of the party. Taking pictures, celebrity bowls, and just genuinely having a great time with everybody. An hour later he made it to our lane and he had not lost an ounce of energy. What a great dude. Hope he's a Hawk for his whole career
John Collins has consistently been one of my favorite players the past couple years. His offensive game as a catch-and-shoot guy in addition to his rolling towards the basket, grabbing offensive rebounds, etc. makes him such an efficient off-ball frontcourt presense. The main area he needs to work on offensively is his ballhandling and passing. He could add some action off the dribble and some more action where he’s passing out of the post. He should make an All Star appearance at some point if he continues his growth.
Knicks fan here - nothing but love and respect for JCollins. Have heard so many stories about what a class act he is and you can see it on the court. Guys like him, respect him and they have no reason not to. Awesome pod guys, thanks so much for what you do.
@@last7116 I dunno man - I feel like they are two guys who can leave beef on the court. Joel is as chill of a dude as they come. His episode on this pod was amazing too btw
Look at John with the Jokic shoutout. Love to see players giving Joker love. Shoutout John. Love watching him play, and can’t wait for the next interview he’s on! Great podcast as always jj
This really needs to be acknowledged: Tommy does such a great job on the show. Timing and chemistry are weird things, to find just the right balance on when to jump in the conversation, when to stand back, and he just does a perfect job with it...he's never too heavy, yet never vanishes, just a amazing complimentary co-host.
awesome episode. gotta have JC back on and hear more about that crazy childhood and his insane come up from highschool through college and into the first round of the draft
Always been a huge fan of JJ and man, I like him even more. Great questions, great correspondence, just a great podcast for hoops all around. I really like the maturity and humbleness Collins brings.
John played high school ball at Cardinal Newman which was in my school’s district and I played against him a bunch of times. As a junior he was a solid player but when he came back for his senior year he was a whole different player. Dope to see him doing well in the league 💯
Incredibly noticeable jump @20:12. I'm imagining what quip JJ made about JC's comment about adjusting to women as an NBA player. Hopefully Tommy adds it to the blooper reel
John is the coolest dude. I met him at a Hawks Player Meet n Greet. There were no autographs allowed but I snuck in a picture of him Posterizing Joel Embiid. He signed the poster and my jersey for me. We dabbed up like 6 times talking about how epic that dunk was
I walked into the room with this video playing, heard the beeping of a smoke detector in the background and knew they were interviewing a brother. Lol.
@NewRim Hoops no the game has changed an the point guard is now the scorer an the big is secondary inna pick an roll.. which is why trae is averaging 27 an Collins is averaging 17.. it used to be the other way around
@NewRim Hoops Nash was WAY more of a reluctant shooter than Trae is. If Trae had the playstyle that Nash did, John's numbers would be spot on. Nash is one of the best passers ever and Trae is a primary scorer.
Best nba pod cast by far love the guest john is dope keeps improving hoping for an all star selection soon much deserved. Love how humble jj is and how he always shines light and recognition on his guests need more people like him in media no need to hate on players
John Collins is so nice. A few years ago they came to an event hosted by the non-profit my aunt works at. He was so nice that all the ajummas talk about him to this day including my aunt. He came with Jeremy Lin one time and they all fawned over how nice John was. Lin or his brother were kinda indifferent or standoff-ish maybe b/c it was a bad time for him whatnot with the injuries and uncertainties with being moved to Toronto and playing subsequently in China. Hope all is good for both of them.
Well done! Keep doing a great job...great interview by Collins, great pod pickup. Funny joker shout out, maybe get him on the pod? Or another euro big, JV? I know Tommy is always looking for suggestions!
Nate’s coaching is the reason why our season been like this. He needs to involve Cam Reddish in the offense more and give Jalen Johnson and Sharife Cooper more minutes as well. Delon Wright and TLC shouldn’t be playing as much.
I always liked John Collins. He just needs to be a bit less of a nice guy during games, especially in the playoffs. I'd like to see him retaliate to a shove with a counter-shove at least once, even if it gets him a tech. The other bigs in the league kinda push him around, and the Hawks could use someone like him getting tough to fire them up. Peace from Boston.☘
I see the opposite actually. He doesn’t do extra curricular stuff but for a 4 man he’s extremely physical, probably the best rebounding 4 in the league not including guys like AD who are primarily centers. Hawks main issue defensively in my opinion is their wing defense & his backup Gallanari is probably the slowest Non 7 footer guy in the league.
@@BrianDonato That's all true while the clock is running, but the extra curricular stuff is exactly what I'm talking about. He's always catching those extra little shoves and elbows after the whistle, and he's either too nice or unwilling to get a technical to retaliate. He always puts his hands up and walks away. I wanna see him just toss a dude to the ground one time, if not in the regular season, then at least in a playoff series. Just not against my Celtics lol.
John collins great an all but bro replace ur batteries for the fire detector… ur 6ft10 u shouldn’t have a problem with reaching it and I don’t want to hear u can afford new batteries
Yo, so like anyone wanna go help the dude out and get his smoke detector batteries replaced? I am not sure if he isn't tall enough to reach them or doesn't have the money but someone help a brother out.
