The 1956 Texas Aggies were the toughest football team I ever saw. Coach Bryant, John David Crow, and eight seniors who were the Last of The Junction Boys.
I wondered on more than one occasion if Joe Don Looney had stayed on the right path would he have been as good as John David Crow. The SWC made a case far more than once that it was the best conference in the country. I think the whole thing could have been solved by having the Southwest Conference and The Southeast Conference join forces under the name "The South Conference". No Big 8 or Big 10 would have bothered them or poached any of them. Naturally, Oklahoma & Oklahoma State would be asked to join.
For anyone who remembers watching #44 on Sunday afternoons, he obviously was one tough SOG. What a great player JDC was. God bless our college and pro football heroes from a by-gone era.🏈
