Today I'll use the Series 1, John Deere 1025r compact tractor to show you how to versatile the tractor is when equipped with the Wallenstein BX 42 wood chipper. This tractor has 18 HP at the PTO and is that's enough horsepower to operate the wood chipper. Today I'll show you how to clean up tree limbs and branches using the wood chipper. We'll also use the H120 front loader to clean all the wood chips up.
Welcome to my channel here in Dubuque Iowa. My channel is know as "Bill Burkhart 1025" or Today in Iowa. I hope you enjoy the video and take time to view many other videos showing you how I get many jobs done around my property using my John Deere 1025 and John Deere 2038r compact tractors and attachments. I'd love to hear your comments.

I bought a little 6.5hp chipper. It’s pretty amazing. Does up to 3inch branches. Not as easy to access the blades as this one. I was chipping a big vine and the bark actually clogged it up. Had to take out probably 8 bolts and split it in half just to get to the blades and free it up. Now that I have a 1025r I’m thinking of upgrading. Saw a DR one for $500. They basically gave that thing away. I wish I was faster at responding.

Thanks for checking in Ty, do a video on the tiller, I'd like to see the 2038 in action, I'm 99% sure I'm purchasing one this spring. Any regrets with the 2038 you can share?
@tycanavan3705
@tycanavan3705 5 лет назад
I will make a video of the tiller in a few weeks when the ground here in California gets dryer, we have had a lot of rain here and looking forward to putting it to work. I have had the 2038 for 18 months and love it, I didn't get the backhoe because I don't have a need for it, I do mainly mowing and box blading and some loader work and now getting into growing some corn/garden. I have no regrets at all. If your going to keep the 1025, my suggestion would be to compare the 2038 and the 3046 to see which one fits your needs better, both are just about the same size but the 3046 has more PTO power and more lifting weight, just depends on your needs and budget. Thnxs PS. I did post a video of a friend on my tractor cutting grass with the 72" belly mower I have if you want to look at it to get an idea on size.
@billburkhart

@@tycanavan3705 Thank Ty for the advice to compare the 1025 to the 3 series. I'll do that. I will get a backhoe as I have a few jobs for it, if nothing else for therapy after work. I have 101 employees and need an outlet. LOL

When I borrow my dad's X728 with a fixed rear weight box, I put a weight under each end of the trailer tailgate to lift it up a tad. Usually works depending on what spot I find for the trailer.

I have these same machines. The chipper works ok on dry material. But when I try to run limbs through with fresh green growth on them it plugs up very frequently. This has led me to believe that the air flow is inadequate for some types of green fresh growth material. I used to have a Valby chipper and it did not have this problem. So my work around is to let the material to be chipped dry for a while.

Bill this is another excellent video and it helps me a lot. I have miles of wooded trails that need grooming and afterwards I want to put down wood chips on the trails. I’m sold on this one now to, like you, go with my 1025R.
@billburkhart
@billburkhart 4 года назад
Hi Nowakesone, happy Sunday. There are more expensive wood chippers with more features, but for the money this is a very good chipper and works excellent with the 1025. I like to chip and grind anything smaller that a broom handle, although I've ground limbs up to the size of a baseball bat and it works well. - Bill

Bill Burkhart Bill Burkhart Thank you Bill. Happy Sunday to you too! I bought this land to camp and bushcraft. For me, this was/is going to be a personal retreat. But.... I see the potential that exists by grooming the trails and connecting the spurs. I’ve seen a few videos where people spread wood chips using manure spreaders... very efficient. The connectors will make the entire trail network about 4 miles long. Skim the rough stuff with the bucket, drag the obvious debris with the rake, chip all the deadfall with your chipper, spread it with the spreader. Having fun doing hard work. Your critique and criticisms are welcome.

Bill Burkhart I do too Bill. It’s obvious you do and so far I’m having a great time. This is all very new to me. Yesterday my wife and I hiked the existing trails and went off trail to cut those choking vines that kill trees. It was a win win win. Hopefully the trees are feeling better already, I know I am, and I went into areas not yet groomed and got a good look around. Man what a blessing this land is for me.

Pretty much all of these are made in China. There are numerous BX42S chippers you can buy from various suppliers that are basically identical. It seems they all perform well for homeowner property clean up jobs.
@rodcros
@rodcros 4 года назад
I bought the very same machine used a couple of years ago, and it works very well on a 21 hp Kubota. I discovered it's not a Wallenstein, even though it was advertised as one. It's a clone. Wallenstein parts work on it, though. Look for a serial number plate. If it has one, it's the real deal. If not, it came from China, like mine.

@rodcros 4 года назад
@@billburkhart One thing for readers: I originally tried to buy another clone, though missing a pto shaft. When I got it home and rotated the flywheel, the knives were all out of whack because the flywheel was warped. I took it back to the vendor because there was no way this thing could work properly. What sold me on the other one, which also turned out to be a clone, was that it was installed on a Kubota B7510 just like mine, the flywheel was flawless, and the vendor claimed it was a Wallenstein and worked well. I have had two years of extensive use from it, and the only replacement part was the bushing between the spout and the main body of the chipper: it was made of black plexiglass, rather than steel, on the counterfeit. The Wallenstein part cost $27 from my local Kubota dealer, though, and fit well.

Great job on this video. Detailed but not at all drawn out. Loved the color commentary on your stomping grounds, by the way. It may be just me, but it appears your front tires are too low on air when you moved the chipper with the pallet forks. Might really reduce their load capacity.

I’ve had a BX 42 for 11 years and used it a lot on my 2305. I also mow with a rear finish mower. At 800 hours I had to replace the drive line because the female splines were rounding off. I had thought that it was the proverbial spider joints. It turned out to be more than $900. In retrospect I wonder if all the vibration from the chipper contributed to spline rounding. I have been guilty of using it aggressively.

@bobjohnson8624
@bobjohnson8624 5 лет назад
Stephen, the female yoke is not available as an individual part. It's part of the whole driveline assembly that includes the spider joints. $751 instead of $116. The fortunate part is that the 2305 is simple to remove rather than taking apart half the tractor like on the 2210. The assembly seems a little short and the yoke has a lot more depth available. At the time there were only three driveline assemblies available in the whole country.

Hello Jim, I’ve used this chipper on the 1025 and the 2038 and was very happy with it. However, I sold it a month ago because I found I use the grapple instead to haul brush to a pit that I dump all my brush. I also found myself frustrated that I couldn’t grind up green limbs with leaves because it would plug up. I was also frustrated with the way the branches would tear my arms up pushing them into the chipper. Going forward, I’ll rent a large pull behind if I choose to grind up a pile of limbs. Hope my opinion helps you decide what to do.

It's good to grease your bearings, but be careful with that "big shot of grease". When the grease is pushing out past the seals you are damaging the seal. Should only need 1-2 pulls of grease at the recommended intervals after the bearing is initially filled.

My Ferguson te20's big problem was the lack of an over-running clutch. This propelled me over the odd boulder while bush hogging until I bought the add-on ratcheting attachment for the pto shaft. Depending upon the health of your Ferguson's engine, it would certainly be worth a try on a borrowed chipper before purchase. The clutch shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't engage the pto while moving the tractor. The 400 pound weight of this implement should be well within the te20's capablility.
