After showing 32 PTO hp on the Dyno, Johnny X (our Turbo John Deere 1025r) is ready for some real world work. Let’s try to loader and the land plane. Stay tuned for more SUPER SUBCOMPACT action with Johnny X!
Wild man Tim. Testing an experimental turbo tractor charged tractor and not wearing a helmet, driving gloves or fire suit. WOW!!! It looks like that turbo really does well. Impressive.
The land plane does a great job. The extra power is obvious when you’re pulling the box full of stone. Quite impressive. What a debut for Johnny X. Blessings and a Happy New Year!
Love Johnny-X results! SO happy to see it performing in a positive way! Exactly what I was hoping to see! Wishing you God's continued Blessings throughout this new year! Love the channel!
Love you videos Tim and Christy . I've watched your videos for about 5 years and bought my first tractor back in March. I have to say your videos are informative and enjoyable keep up the good work
I use a land plane quite often and you can really tell the difference with the turbo in your video! The other 2 jobs that really bog down my 1025r are mowing with a mulching kit and snow blowing. Thanks for the awesome videos!
Wow what a difference in power! Johnny X now has ‘X-cellent power.’ A very nice job on the turbo fabrication and install. Well done. Sounds like a big rig! (Would love to see something for them orange tractors someday.) 😉
That was a good test to see the difference in engine power . I'm interested to see the PTO horsepower comparison now , bush hog , tiller etc etc . Thanks to you both for the excellent video as always . God bless guys!
I have to agree with Ben T. I have also used a land plane extensively, maintaining a mile long easement road. The gravel load you had in there would bog my tractor down quite a bit. Pretty impressive. Sounds cool, too.
For your driveway extension you could try cutting out a couple inches of dirt and putting in some bigger rock like 1's and 2's as a base and then your smaller stone with the fines to help lock it in. Love your videos. Appreciate your time testing out things for us.
Wow! Quite the difference between the two, even the sound. I could tell it was Johnny "X" that you brought up after the stock one because of the turbo whistle. Can't wait to see what you guys do next!
It is great to finally get to see the 1038X in action. Also good to hear some wise word of advice on setting up the equipment to where it gets the job done that you want and ignore the trolls (paraphrasing)
Hats off to ADS for the sound engineering of the turbo. It starts there. Of course it's early in seeing the potential long range benefits and usefulness of the turbo addition, but it is trending in a positive direction from this video. Sure there may be additional ways of taking advantage of this new power, ie. hydro transmission, but I am sure Tim is already thinking ten steps ahead in the experts he might consult next as this test platform is used revealing its weaknesses and strengths and where reasonable tweaks can be made to enhance/strengthen this machines capabilities. Happy New Year Tim and Christy.
Nice!!! If ADS does make a kit hopefully as a perk they include a set of "TURBO" stickers that match the arch of the fenders to to put on the tractor. Looking forward to more head to head comparisons between the two Johnny's.
*sets pen and paper down* Yep, no longer grading and keeping score. lol. I like the idea of pen stripes or flames on it to tell the difference. Just have to be careful if using power washer so you don't blow the decals off. Great suggestions Ken G and Dean.
Nice job with the land plane. Your little green machine is sounding good. You mentioned redoing the end of the driveway with a new culvert. When you do I would sure recommend paving the 20-30 feet next to the road, because you will never stop people from spinning tires.
You have done great, that has made a big change in the 1025,now you can sat 1038R good luck with the experiment ,hope everything goes good for you,Happy New Year
I'm thinking the same with the land plane. I have a box blade right now, but I think the land plane for my driveway would be a better way to go, except my driveway isn't that long, its wide and its a circular driveway, but even so, the land plane I think would work better.
I am not a green owner, but I think that it would be a great idea to have the turbo kit available. Especially for those of us that can't resist tractor mods. Thanks Tim.
My buddy has trash truck pickup, and keeps 2 semi’s in his yard. He uses big chunks of concrete fill, and then 3-4” stone, then puts the small stuff like you have on top. It holds very well, repairs only really needed about every other year.
I like your initial testing approach of running the tractor in "basic/normal" operating tasks to see how the engine & turbo hold up. IMO the real test to see if the value for the money is can it run larger pto driven equipment whether a wood chipper, tiller, mower, etc. A direct pull without the engine bogging down is a good start but you can only have a certain amount of torque to the wheels before it spins out and the original engine could do that. If it proves to be able to perform same work at lower rpm range, saving the engine, that may be worth the cost. If it can run heavier pto equipment that would substantially be worth the cost. As a 2025r owner I want Thank You so much for your effort in experiment as it may prove very valuable to us smaller tractor owners. Have a safe / blessed Happy New Year...
I used to be a prime General Contractor in South Carolina I did Demolition too I had 220 size trackhoes New Holland Skid Steers if something tore up I just got the dealer to fix it TTWT has taught me so much I could have saved thousands
that video was very impressive to see how well Jonny X was performing low and high gear....what will be helpful to see is it this spring or summer cutting with a 4ft brush hog and then a 5ft brush hog as well not only on level ground but going up hill...i know a lot of others have commented on the 1025r lagging going up hill cutting brush......what also would be nice to see it help out in the fields doing hay and other farm work that it can for it size with even a bailer and other attachments running on the rear pto and hydrolic system.....we are all glue'd to see what Jonny X can acomplish....
I really like what you've done w Johnny X. He's performing like a happy tractor. I'd like to see the prioritized hydraulic splitter and a bit thicker pump (10 or 11cc - extreme!) on him to take advantage of the additional power when using a backhoe or something impossible for a regular 1025r (Limbsaw? Mulcher?). Looking to do the same soon to my red beast ASAP. Nice work, nice results prove it! 1025x works... 1040r? 1025xr? Yeah, consider keeping the 25 in the name just for emissions!!! I wouldn't touch the pressure unless you find a need for it, but more flow is awesome.
This is what I'm really interested in. The engine has more power but its now restricted by the hydraulic pressure the other components are limited to. I wonder about an increase in the hydrostatic pressure relief valve now the engine can handle more, but I'd be concerned the transmission wouldn't handle the extra torque. Thankyou for effectively doing my research for me 👍❤😁 pray you have a fantastic new yr
I think it’s quite the improvement with the turbo. I’ve been watching and thinking how I could adapt that to my x595. :D It is nice to see that sometimes you let it go at good enough and point out where you didn’t get the results or setting the way you intended. I look forward to see how you deal with the driveway entrance. Visiting my in-laws, their driveway has a bit more severe incline to the road and I was just thinking how I could work to improve it.
Hey Tim..Ballzy for sure! Looking forward to more comparisons and getting an idea of cost for that upgrade. Very nice! Happy New Year to you and yours!
PS In case you are taking suggestions, I think a yellow decal with 1025 RXT (for experimental Turbo) and a cartoony turbo on it would be very cool to distinguish it..
Love the videos! Where you’re having rut issues, that area really needs dug down to clay filled with bigger rock underneath like #4 and then put your smaller rock like 53 on top. That topsoil will just turn to muck then spread out with the weight of the truck when it’s wet
You do a really nice job with that tractor. My first tractor a JD 2032 2ill be here in a few weeks and I have quite a bit of gravel work to do on my driveway. I'm learning a lot watching your videos.
A land plane is the best attachment I own. We are building a new acreage with a 1/4 mile drive and am doing quite a bit of the rough-to-finish landscape shaping with our 4066r and 7ft land plane. Scarifiers are a must if you are looking for one. Like any attachment, learning how to adjust and adapt the tool to the job makes a tremendous difference.
Very nice demo on the 1025R! Looking forward to more. Please don't change the badge number, just add TURBO to it. It really blows peoples minds that know anything about sub compacts. They are like " i didn't know J D made them with turbo!" Haha!
I’d like to see more side by side comparison working on projects with both Johnnys. It would have been nice to see the land plane on the other machine. Please make more comparison videos.
Great real work experiment with the Turbo. Can hear Johnny maintaining RPM"S so Turbo must be working perfectly. I would suggest that in to help fix your driveway in front of your dumpster, would be to dig out what you have and the top layer of stone and sod and place 4-6" of 4" stone (AASHTO #1) top dressed by what you have on your driveway. That should hold up to whatever you drive across it.
You might want to consider washed gravel next time Tim. I know it sounds stupid, but I'm really quite impressed with how much washed gravel packs and holds almost as if it were paved vs the crusher run stuff. Really saves a lot of money in the longer run too.
When I watched the hp test, I have to say that I was disappointed. Only 32 hp? Then it hit me, that was 32 hp at the PTO! So it went from 18 to 32hp at the PTO. Nice! So that’s more hp at the PTO than Tim’s 2038r! Very nice...
When in lower and idle rpm, its a big difference in engine sound between johnny X and the original one :) This is interesting, I hope you will use him on more projects, think it might be there you will se difference the most, in real scenarios , like the one you done here with the land plane
that is so cool! We actually can hear the turbo running on Johnny X!:D I think it would be cool if you would just name it a 1038R, that would look very good!:D
Tim Johnny X is super charged and it's green. I'm thinkin a good name would be the Super Pickle. In 1980 Amtoys made a stuffed pickle wearing a cape called Super Pickle. You can still find them on eBay if you need company on the tractor.
@@tnt666tnt I bought 5 acres that was abandon farmland. They didn’t knock down the humps. So I plowed the soil, disc harrow the big chunks into little chunks, drag harrow to knock it down some more, land plane with the scar fires down to pull up any rocks I didn’t get before I do a light 1-3 inch till. Planting grass or field seed in the spring. I don’t know if I want to have that for the goats or steers to graze on
One solutions for your driveway if you don’t want pavement is to use DSA (Driving Surface Aggregate). It keeps its form and handles heavy loads very well but is also low dust and the surface does not erode like a normal gravel driveway. It’s more expensive then a normal gravel driveway and does have to be put down with a paver but can be maintained with all the equipment you already have.
Hey Tim. Most places have a graphics shop that can print custom decals of the size needed to "wrap" your tractor. It doesn't cost much to have your own custom design done.
