Missed your videos! Sad to hear about the 400. Two months ago I scored a 1978 316K that was non running. Got it running beautifully I plan to use it as my mowing machine. I use my Case 222 I repowered with a Predator Hemi 13hp as the snow remover as well as the pulling/pushing worker. Love your video!
That kicks ass! Glad to hear it! And thanks a lot for the kind words. I’m quite looking forward to getting this 400 apart and refreshed. Hoping it’s not going to cost another $2000 to rebuild that engine! 😩
@@NewMoonRanch for that price you could buy a brand new drop in engine as a repower just a idea. That's what my plan is to do once and if the Kohler in my 316K goes out. $1700 for a drop on Briggs 18hp then I'll rebuild the original as a back up. Hopefully that doesn't happen for years to come.
Sucks about the 400. I almost scored a 400 that hadnt run on almost 15 years for $400 but a guy got there before me. I wonder if the engine was blown on it too and thats why it was parked..have you thought about a repower with a honda or something similar?
Aw shucks! Keep an eye out and you’ll score one, I’m sure! Once I have a full picture of the cost of the rebuild I’ll consider the other power options. But I’m STRONGLY in favor of keeping things original and period specific on these vintage things. The original engine, while a costly affair to rebuild I’m sure, is nearly 1/2 of the tractor! It’s heart and soul! And it’s charm! I’d hate to throw nearly any other new power plant in her, unless it was my last option. I’d rather just go buy a new JD mower!
Congrats!! I’m hoping to pull the engine sometime the next month or so. Right now I’m pretty close getting the JD 140 back in action and a converted 54” mower deck for yard duties in the meantime. How’s your 400 running?
