It's a shame JD stopped making push mowers. The ones they made late 80's to mid 90's are the best ever built. Those Kawis are incredible engines.

Yep, sell that starter. Buddy of mine got quite a few on trade, the grey color. Sold all from $40-$140ish. Some running some just parts, definitely got good side of the trade. Later...

There are some videos out there where they use a tool battery 18v to replace to wet cell batteries in electric start mowers.

Shame about the battery but the starter should make up for it . hopefully the trans can be saved.

There have been a couple times I’ve passed on it and been successful. Not very common. Most of the stuff I come across needs it.. and the thing comes through for me every. single. time.

Thank you for the video, i own a Deer 14SB and a fresh new arrived Yanmar YL-480-TS , both incredibly solid cast aluminium these are american and japanese mowers, i even own a french one i believe with the same engine and cast aluminium aswel but with yellow color

My dad bought this model in the early 90s and when I bought my first home he gave it to me. Today I gave it to a nephew since it was sitting for over a decade in my garage. Hopefully he can get it started.

I’m a huge fan of the Deere push mowers. Ive bought, flipped and sold many. Just bought a 14SC at auction. This is the commercial version. Fortified, steel wheels, etc. A rare find. For years, I’ve looked for the even more elusive 12PB, the Deere two stroke. I believe it may be a Briggs engine, but not sure. One of these days, I’ll find one. Lol

@@ChrisXOutdoors them old classic lawn mowers have better quality than the ones of today. Since they can last longer, they are worth being preserved.

The "green deck" 14SB and 14SE were one year only production. 1988. They were designed by Lawn Boy for John Deere and then Lawn Boy was bought out by Toro in 1989. John Deere designed their own mowers from 1989-2003ish at which point they borrowed a lot of the design from Eastman and others. The real heros of this generation (and the 1988's) is the Kawasaki FC150v engine. The 1988 green decks were splash lubrication and only 4.5hp. The fully pressurized oil system didn't start until the silver deck models in 1989. Not all models were fully pressurized oiling.

You can actually run lawn boy M series (and certain other models) wheels on these mowers. Identical other than they are white instead of yellow. The rear wheels on these mowers are the Achilles heel.

No one commented-NGK all the way in a Kawasaki engine...I would say Champion in a B&S tho...but I have a sweet spot for the Kawi's!

@@ernestomoioli8013 Prova a girare la vite dentro e fuori finché non trovi il punto giusto. Credo sia un cacciavite piatto. Assicuratevi che il tosaerba sia al minimo quando effettuate la regolazione

You may have figured out that the thing (you didn’t know what it was for) attached to the grass deflector is for parking the battery wiring plug when you don’t have the battery installed.

Nice Chris. Out of the hundreds of mowers I've worked on I've never had an older John Deere like that one. Looking forward to part 2! Hope it's something simple like a bad belt or cable.

What does 'JX' stand for? Have 2 JX-75s. Love the Kawasaki motor, both been running flawlessly for 20yrs now.

It’s a great question. Might but be just a model name not specific to the function. But I know there are a lot of similarities between the two. Great machine and yes the Kawasaki’s are extremely bulletproof. Thanks for watching!

@@ChrisXOutdoors Thx. The JX-85 is the commercial version w/ aluminum wheels. Have only seen one in the wild & it was in-service,...stout mower and the reason why I purchased the JX-75s.

The JX75 replaced the 1989-1997 silver deck 14SB. (essentially same mower) The JE75 (electric start) replaced the 14SE The JX85 (commercial) replaced the 14SC and 14SX silver deck mowers. JX85 was made 1997-2003 only. No commercial option until the WE80/WE85 came along in 2010-2011 which is just a rebadged Eastman (UK) mower. The WE85 is the same as the Gravely, Ingersoll, Kubota, and many other commercial 21" mowers. The WE85 had a stop sale due to the blade brake clutch springs failing and the wheels cracking. Both eventually got fixed with updated parts but the damage was already done. Very few WE80/85 made.

I’m 2 yrs late . But just now seeing this Video. I own a John Deere jx75, I bought it over 20 years ago. And it still cranks on the 1st pull. I dont know how long that Kawasaki engine will keep running , but I’m not selling it. It’s been 1 hell of a Mower.
