Step by Step!
In today's video, I'll be showing you how to remove an engine on a John Deere 325 riding lawn mower.
This engine needs to come out, because it has a significant oil leak from not only the crankshaft main seal, but also from the head gasket & the sump gasket.
This will be a full video series, so we'll be replacing those parts in upcoming videos!

Thanks Man!! Will be attacking a JD GT262 today. Tommorow, replace that lower bearing on FC540V motor. I did drain oil and gas then rolled it over on its side and power washed the underside. Wife was "happy" as laundry room stunk of oil and grease. Might use a big turn buckle to remove large tensioner spring. Great safety tips but I've always been called one form of safety or another. Mother Safety > Captain Safety > Baron Von Safety but that sounds like underwear--BVS ;)

Outstanding video. The quick explanations of why you do things in a certain order and for safety set this DIY from most others. I own a 1988 Porsche 928S4 and have done this same job on its V8 - and I wouldn't want to try doing this job on my GT275 without this excellent video. Small engines have their own quirks and challenges.

Thanks for the video. I used this on my 2000 JD 345 to get to the water pump. The air hammer was the trick to get the Electric PTO and other pulley off. That alone saved me time and money, send me the bill. ;)

Thanks for the Video Man. I think I have to do this on on my 17 HP Kawasaki FH500V for my LX 277. I have had a slow leak for months. I imagine the engines are slightly different but this should be helpful.

My PTO clutch (same engine) fell off when I removed the bolt...a lot of oil over a long time.

Another question. I watched the carb video and realized that it was really in bad shape. I bought new but upon removal I noticed a vinyl tube from a nipple at 12 o'clock that was just hanging in space. It was mushroomed out on the end so it definitely had been attached somewhere but I don't see where. where should it go? Can it just be blocked? I can send a picture if that is an option.

Nice and explicit video. A question. I need to remove and clean my carburetor. Tractor has set for a long time. Is there a special tool to remove the studs that hold the carb to engine?

Double nut, take the nut off one side and double it up, one will act as a lock nut so you can remove the stud if necessary. Thanks for watching!

Great video. Question for you. Trying unbolt the PTO clutch and the PTO clutch is spinning also. What do I need to do to keep PTO clutch pulley from spinning? Thanks

I got it. Had to stick a screwdriver down the flywheel. I'm replacing the engine. The original engine blew up.

Why not use the chain hoist to lift the front up to a 45 degree or more angle to work under the machine to remove the pulleys , bolts , old oil and what have you. That's how I do it it works great. I hate working on the floor.

I've done it before, but I honestly don't mind laying down, I'm still young lol Once it gets hard on me, I'll start doing that all the time. Also, I didn't want to move the couch (too lazy).

I’ve got a JD 335 with a 20 hp Kawasaki that the crankshaft pulley for the drive belt is seized on. Can’t pry on it at all due to the chances of bending it. Any idea how or what I can do to get the pulley off? Thoroughly enjoy your videos! My clutch fell right off, which I kinda expected as much oil as it was leaking! Lol!

Might have to bend the keepers out if that's the case. Taking a torch in there could end up melting the crankshaft main seal and then you need to pull the engine to replace. Other than a puller or heat, not much works apart from vibration from something like a pneumatic air hammer. Good luck.

i sent another question but think the video was over and didn't transmit. The power connection to the carb. Is that supposed to be hot when tractor is running? If solenoid is stuck will that restrict gas flow?
