In this video I go through how to do the 100 hour service on the John Deere 5045e. The main things that need to be done include changing the engine oil and filter along with the hydraulic filter.

Just did this today; I took the fan belt shield off to get easier access to that filter 1:52. I'm thinking about leaving it off. Oh BTW, I used that same type of filter wrench and it ripped loose when I tried to removed the hydro-trans filter...glad you had better luck!

Hey Donald thanks for watching. I didn’t think about taking the shield off but will keep it in mind if I have issues in the future. I managed to say the least with that filter wrench. I may have to upgrade just depends how it does the next time. I’m thinking the filters may come off easier the next time. Take care brother

Look into a “flex-a-funnel” (or form a funnel, can’t remember) they’re a great way to shape a funnel and get into equipment so you’re not spilling oil everywhere when taking filters off

Ou r 5045 has a loader on it also, we opted for construction tires front and back because we use it to load 21-Bale Baron bundles into a semi trailer,,,,,,, Only real problem we had is the loader joystick cables.... the cable that controls the bucket kept braking after a years use.... After some research I solved the problem by substituting the cables off a 5075M Made a Video....with part numbers

I changed the oil today in my 5055E, Easier job when you take 4 bolts out and remove the plate-cover in front of filter and under oil fill cap. Filter removal alot easier. My 5055 does the light work, it's BIG green brothers take care of the heavy stuff

@@OurGreeneAcres I have a 6120..18 years old, 4000 trouble free hours, 2018 6110R, all the bells and whistles, sometimes..TOO many bells and whistles. I use 6110R to put hay out for cattle, can get the hay rolls out, 1 hour run time and never put my foot on the clutch pedal. I enjoyed your video

Awesome tractor, I have the same model and 2WD too. There's not many videos on the JD 5045e other than dealership reviews, and those are more sales related than actual help in reviewing. How are your hydraulic hoses routed for the loader? I noticed you had them secured to the frame of the loader. The dealership left mine hanging and I ran into so many issues with that, sent it back for them to make it right and still had issues with lines fraying and rubbing.
@OurGreeneAcres
@OurGreeneAcres 4 года назад
I really like it so far it has done everything I’ve wanted it to. Mine came from the dealer with the hoses all neat and secured. The loader is a 512 and the hoses run down the right side zipp tied to the loader arm and across the front zipp tied to the cross piece behind the bucket to get to the cylinder on the left side. Thanks for watching and I be glad to provide more info if I can.

I used to work at John Deere and part numbers are always being replaced by new ones for some reason. I’m sure the part number if you look it up isn’t available anymore and is replaced by the part number you have. Same filter, different number..

I like my old school 2wd it’s what I grew up with. The tractor was cheaper and one less thing to worry about breaking. I can say in over 2 years I’ve never once said I wish I had 4wd.
@FromSteelToWood

Right. And yet, you don't have tire chains. If ever you wished you had a 4wd, put good tire chains on and it will solve the problem!

From Steel To Wood I can remember it coming an ice storm 1983 and me and my grandpa put regular log chains around the tires on his old Massey to put out hay worked great.

Greetings! I too have a 5045E, but mine doesn't have the box under the step on the right side of the tractor (viable in your video). Is this a battery box or is fluid tank? Thanks!

Yes that is the battery box on the right if sitting on the tractor. Thanks for watching!

@@OurGreeneAcres I found the fact that there is a pick up screen in the 'troubleshooting' section of my manual. After watching almost 10 videos I found the location. It was so clogged! It was my problem, now solved. (facing rear of tractor, see an oval port with two 13mm bolts to the right of the PTO - on 5045E)

@BartSparrow123
@BartSparrow123 4 месяца назад
Agreed! Also, I'm still not sure if you need to drain the entire hydraulic system to change the filter, usually you do and that's 11.5 gallons of hydraulic oil you need!

Do you regret getting a 2wd over a 4wd?

Absolutely not, grew up with the 2wd tractors 4wd was never really an option. One less thing to maintain or fix. Take care brother.

I'm surprised to see factory oil filter still on. That should have been changed out at 50 hrs. Also, hydraulic fluid will run out a fair amount since it is near the bottom of the system. Please include how to check and top off hydraulic fluids.
@OurGreeneAcres
@OurGreeneAcres 4 года назад
I was not aware about the factory filter needing to be replaced I didn’t see that in the manual. Surprisingly there was not much hydraulic fluid loss. I will try to do another video when I do the hydraulic oil change I’m thinking 500 hrs. Thanks for watching take care brother.

Mr. Belter, my owner manual for 2020 5075E, calls for 1st oil change at 100 hours. Will you tell me why you say 50? New tractor owner here and just trying to get it right. Has 70 hours now and am about to change year old oil. Just curious about intervals. Also, what do you think about synthetic oil? Thank you
@BartSparrow123
@BartSparrow123 4 месяца назад
The John Deere manual calls for the first engine oil change at 100 hours. It also calls for the "transmission hydraulic filter" to be replaced at 100 hours, but isn't clear that means you also have to change the 10 or 11.5 gallons of hydraulic oil at the same time, but that is kinda implied since you have to drain the hydraulic oil to change the hydraulic filter. I'm looking at the owner's manual as I type this...@@almccallie4314

Ya know, people got the job done with 2WD tractors for years and you get twice as much tractor for the money without 4WD.
@OurGreeneAcres
@OurGreeneAcres 3 года назад
Exactly everything I grew up with was 2wd farming. I did not price 4wd and my thinking is just one less thing that could break.

@@auntiefiat9769 I agree Auntie, I have only had my 5045 e 4wd a short period of time; I have only needed 4wd twice; but I was sure glad to have it. Quick hop into 4wd, and I was out of a jam without backing up or getting off the tractor, and then right back to 2wd work.
