Good to finally see a farmer that don't need 10 combines and 60 foot headers just to combine the crop

My grandparents have a 6620 turbo today. They use it on their 75 acre farm to harvest their wheat, barley, corn and soybeans. I haven’t ridden in it but I when I was about 7 to 10 years old I was able to make many memories with my grandmother in the old 4420 they used to have. I do like seeing their old equipment run today cause nothing runs like it today.

Drove one of those machines with a 224 ridged grain head .Back in the late 1980s to late 1990s. A big step up from the Chevy 292 engine powered 4400

Cut my teeth on a 7700.. My daddy and uncle ran 7720’s. That’s when farming was sensible and more about family instead of acres to cover for profit. Brings back good memories! Thank you Jason!.

There was a local farmer here that bought a 7720 new & used it as the main combine until his son was old enough to start farming with him. As they got more land the son bought a 9770 I believe but the Dad loved that 7720 & kept on harvesting with it. Even after he retired & the son had fully taken over & had purchased newer & bigger combines he still would pull that 7720 out of the shed every harvest & run it alongside the 2 modern ones the son had. He did that for quite a few years until his health kept him from doing it anymore. He passed away but his son still has that 7720 sitting in his shed.

The first combine I ever operated, was made right after International Harvester was sold to Case. It was a 16 series combine produced in the later half of 1985. I’m almost positive it was made right after Case IH came to be.

Awesome find in our hometown! You forgot the 4420 in the line-up…back in the ‘80’s our family had a 4400&4420 combine…90’s we got 6620’s and on up through the years. Yellow reel looks good with yellow top. Love titan combines! Trying to figure out who these guys are?

When you think - if worst came to the worst - this old Iron - if you keep it working - can keep thousands of people fed. Technology improving is great but the costs and complexity just keep increasing. There is a niche for paid for machines that just keep going - 40 years and still doing the job

The one and only combine I have had a chance to ride in was either an 8820 or possibly a 7720, but pretty sure it was the former. The man that had it also had an almost brand new 4960.This was back in 1994 in the fall. I got to ride in both of those. He also had an Oliver, but can't recall if it was a 1755 or a 1955. He had a cherry condition 4440 and an open station 6400.

My dad and i bought a 7720 new in 1984. My nephew has run it also. 3 generations of our family. We use a 924 straight head and 212 pickup head. Still use it every year but on limited acres. Does a better job of cleaning grain up than newer models.
@curemeister7443
@curemeister7443 10 месяцев назад
Looks like some of that wheat got knocked down by heavy rains. In those areas that have weeds, are these sorted out of the wheat or do the seeds from the weeds mix in with the wheat? Does this affect the price the farmer receives for the wheat?
@lfeco
@lfeco 10 месяцев назад
The green seeds from the weeds do get in the grain tank. At the elevator that is dockage.
@j.mitchell170
@j.mitchell170 10 месяцев назад
Depends on the weed seed. If it's light enough it will get blown out of the back combine. If there are too many weed seeds in with the clean grain it will affect the grade the grain gets and can lower the price received by the farmer. Weed seeds can also spoil the grain if it's left in a grain bin as they are usually more wet than the grain.

@henrivanbemmel 10 месяцев назад
Just curious ... how much crop efficiency is lost using such an old machine? Assuming it's paid for you can absorb some loss compared to the payments on these newer machines. What do some of the experts here think? Does harvest as well even if slower?
@jeanbrandt2624
@jeanbrandt2624 10 месяцев назад
If you have everything set right, will do as good a job as a brand new one.
@henrivanbemmel
@henrivanbemmel 10 месяцев назад
@@jeanbrandt2624 Ok, that makes sense, but .... 1. Do things stay 'set right' with the wear and tear and would the operator know that compared to the diagnostics in the newer machines? 2. Your production rate is going to be much slower, first in cut width plus travel speed. Given that the older engines are going probably use more fuel per hour, how does that work for the economics? 3. I understand your point if you have a reasonably sized farm and just want to take off your own crops without paying someone, but for these custom cutters I don't how it could take the abuse or get the job done in a reasonable time in these 2000 acre fields. 4. There must be a valid economic reason to run these new $1 million units other than they are shiny.
@jeanbrandt2624
@jeanbrandt2624 10 месяцев назад
@@henrivanbemmel no matter what, pays to get out of the cab and check for losses. Diagnostic equipment is only good if calibrated correctly. With grain loss monitors, one can run the combine at full capacity, but with an older machine just have to run slow enough so you know you are not losing any crop. My son runs a 10 year old combine which is “newer” than many of the combines I see. He bought it for less than half of new price, has most of the “bells and whistles” on it. He harvests about 1000 acres, and can afford to have some down time during the season. Down time , cost of repairs, and depreciation are all a big deal.
@henrivanbemmel
@henrivanbemmel 10 месяцев назад
@@jeanbrandt2624 Thank you very much. I was thinking of a much older machine. For me, given the experience of the major manufacturers, i would expect that a 10 year old machine should still be effective. A number of the harvesting channels I've watched this summer are using combines that aren't new and some admit to buying them second-hand as well.

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10 1 John 1 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. Jesus answered, John 14:6 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 The rapture is imminent!
