I grew up on a farm with Allis Chalmers. Dad bought his first John Deere in 1984. Model 2750, brand new. He had his first break down on that tractor just 2 years ago. I also worked for a farmer that had that same 8640. The biggest beast of a machine I ever worked with. Couldn't stop it. Say what you want about John Deere, but those things were rock solid. There's a reason why farmers are starting to rebuild the older ones instead of buying newer crap that's out there. Long live the 8640.
We run older equipment for that reason, it is solid and proven reliable. Our Allis Chalmers have been very good to us but we are also only 6 years into our farm but I think they are going to be around a long time. Thanks for watching
Born in 1979 and these old iron horses coming out in that era, I have such fondness for them. My father and I were very close to purchasing an 8640 about 10 years ago from a farmer in Angola, IN. My biggest concern with them is the cost of repairs. That is one big FC you're pulling, but it certainly looks like it's handling it. Your 8640 looks to be in really nice shape too.
It wasn't mine, I was helping a friend on their farm. As you will see in alot of our videos we run Allis Chalmers tractors only. It was a very nice John Deere that my buddy had though and it ran well and had no issues with the field cultivator
As someone that grew up about fifteen minutes north east of downtown Des Moines. Before you leave town get your self some Tasty Taco original (Flour) tacos. I hope you enjoy our home state.
I will try them next time, we went to eat at la Baja Cocina for queso tacos and they were amazing. I'm not gonna lie probably best tacos I've ever had and gonna be hard to top them😁
We have been not so busy at all on the farm. We do have a few videos we recorded the last couple days that will be published soon after I edit them. We are doing well it has just been slow around here is all. That is a good thing though😁
Alway a good thing to help somebody out. Here in NW Minnesota, there are farms that haven't been able to put one seed in the ground. I noticed that Zach and Chet just started within the last couple of days. Mother nature sure can be fickle.
It seemed like everyone had a late seeding this year. Our friends were done planting last year at the same time they started planting this year. It's weird though because our hay is looking really good and way sooner than last years. You got that right mother nature is fickle for sure!
@@FreedomFarmsMo I noticed that your grass looks better than last year. It's nice to see what you did last year seems to be paying off this year, so far.
I'm not a John Deere fan personally, our farm runs Allis Chalmers tractors only. However that 619 may only make 275 HP but I bet it is making good torque though
We are a livestock farm, I was helping a friend in Iowa on tillage while I was up that way. Our hay and pasture is all perennial and needs nothing other than fertilizer which we spread manure from our lambing barn through our winter onto our hay fields. This is our slow time and we just simply have not made any videos because there is just nothing going on currently. However next week we will pick back up since hay season will be kicking off. Weather pending of course as it has been very rainy lately.
@@reppfarms4493 we are so wet even after those 4 days of sun that today was the first day we could have cut but it is supposed to rain tomorrow night into Wednesday so we are waiting patiently now. The hay crop is looking good though at least. Hope yours was a good cutting too
@@FreedomFarmsMo it's been very wet here too- grass was more mature than I like, but we didn't get enough dry weather before now. With first cutting nearly done, I can finish beans and think about 2nd cutting. Hang in there my friend- dry weather will come!
Oh yea, mother nature will get on track soon enough. Ours will be very mature by the time we can cut. Thankfully we only do one cutting a year per hayfield. So there is some upside. However as our flock grows we may have to start doing a 2nd cut.
What??? You operating a Deere. I thought you were just an Allis Chalmers guy. 😂😂😂. How’s it feel to operate something that big. Might be a little bit to big for your farm. lol 😂 😂😂
I am an Allis Chalmers guy through and through but I couldn't convince them to buy a 4w-305 Allis for me to do their tillage with as I mentioned in the video 🤣 I've actually operated large tractors and tillage pieces before on a farm where I grew up in southern Illinois. It was fun to relive my highschool years. Yea those tractors are a bit much for our hay operation a d manure spreading 😂
