In this video we take a look at the 616 hp JOHN DEERE 9600i self propelled forage harvester processing hay into cow feed. The video shares how the forage harvester works. that was painfull to hear lol, my grandad had everything on the farm laggered in grease and was always lamenting about keeping things greased and its always stuck in my head since my youth

Used machinery often squeaks, even when well greased. Hard to tell if he neglected the greasing maintenance.

Always enjoyed forage chopping when I worked with my dad in the early 1970's. We chopped about 200,000 tons of Corn and Alfalfa per year with two John Deere #38 pull types and a new (back then) monster John Deere three row self propelled. Boy haven't times changed. Love the videos. Til next time; Salute!

I love chopping videos that sound brings me right back to about 1982 and riding around in a Ford 8600 pulling a Gehl chopper

@@bigtractorpower just a couple years later it was a cabbed 9700 there was also a side dumping wagon that dumped into the old ford trucks with gehl wagon boxes set on them was quite a sight back in the day

13 May 2020...depressing...this shows hay being harvested...I look at my acreage (Chenango County, NY) and see a light coat of SNOW and 27 degrees (F)! Yesterday was 29 degrees. :-((

It is a neat to farm to visit. They have dairy and grain. Always lots of interesting machines to see.

BTP, I normally don’t comment on operations. they are there, and I’m not. A couple tubes of grease is a lot cheaper than an overhaul of the front end loader.

Great machinery and sure glad to see the younger generation running the equipment and how many cow's do they milk and I can't wait to see more videos like this I have always wanted to drive one of those self propelled choppers and I think they are a very beautiful machine and what does the I stand for after the numbers hope to see more thank you and stay safe

I am not sure how many cows they milk. It is the largest dairy farm in Kentucky. They run two of these 9600i choppers. The I in 9600i stands for intelligent. I have a spec video on the chopper posted at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rbQ6VC3ROug.html

Great to see how farming operations are carried out in different parts of the world . Compared to Here in the UK The 8245R looks a big cumbersome tractor! We’re used to seeing 6250R tractors which are similar horsepower but are a lot more Compact and nimble. Interesting to see how other parts of the world do things differently. Horses for courses I guess!

The Ag bags I saw in use were in the late 90’s but they have been around for a while. They work well but take up space. They are air fought so there is no spoilage.

JD 70 ,0ne row harvester ,flare box wagon with false front. Yr 1958. Me 12 yrs old driving the A or B JD on wagon.

Does the 9600i have the Liebherr engine?

Its crazy to think that the 9600 is almost mid range as far horsepower goes. I think the top krone is over 1000 hp but i could be wrong.

Yes 900 to 1,100 ho is getting to be the top end. 50 years ago 175 to 225 hp was a big chopper. The 9600 is the entry level 9000 chopper. I made a spec video on the 9600i that is posted at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rbQ6VC3ROug.html

Guy M. Balo PTO shafts can be easy to bend if you turn too sharp. The wagons have light duty pto shafts.

I don’t know. They all seem very good and powerful. I have filmed Claas, Deere, Krone and New Holland. They all move a bunch of crop in a hurry. I do like the Krone Easy Collect header for corn.

bigtractorpower the first self propelled harvester I got to see was at the Ohio Farm Science Review in the late 70’s. It was a Caterpillar powered New Holland in I’m guessing the 250-300 hp range. It was set up to chop corn silage with a 6 row head and entered the field pulling a Badger all metal forage wagon. It made it about 60 feet into its first pass and blew the back wall of the forage wagon onto the ground.

The grass mowed to deep,the gras swathed to deep. This result to much raw ash in the feed. Greetings from germany

I have filmed at this farm for 10 years. They get 7 cuttings a year. This is the way they have always done it. They seem to be successful in the way they produce their feed. They are the largest dairy in the state of Kentucky.
