When I’m away from our family farm I just watch this video to hear the B clap the air through the trees like ours does when we’re out cutting wood. Love it!

The square rear axles say that it is a late model 1950 or newer. The decals maybe should be closer to the front on the side ones. But if he got the decals from Jorde’s, they would have told him where to put them. Mighty nice looking tractor. Mine may never be that nice, but I like to use it too much.
wish my model 50 looked that good, but then again, I probably wouldn't want to use it brush hogging like I do with it now. Love the sound of the old John Deere tractors. The neighbor had an A when I was a kid.

what year model is this tractor? my dad just passed away and has a john deere that looks just like this video but very rustic im having idle problems and the serial plate has been removed.
@CarolMeyer-pv5ub It’s a 1950 model B. It has a magneto, meaning it was built earlier in the year. The B’s built towards the end of 1950 had a distributor.
Can you shift on the fly or no? I mean why would you want to. But I watched another video and guy was saying you could but he didnt try it. I mean why would you wsnt to it not anything to tare up it's antique.
I have not tried shifting on the fly with this tractor. My dad however used to farm with these old two cylinder John Deere’s and was skilled enough to do so.
Okay right on yeah them 2 cylinder are heaven. Nothing like hearing a 2 cylinder puttin around. I was just curious didnt know if you could or or it a big no no.
I still have the 49 B and 630 jd I started driving on my parents farm 52 years ago. Dad taught us kids how to do this because pulling a load of grain out of the field you had to start in a low gear. It’s a sound and feel thing. You listen to he engine rpm, feather or drag the clutch lever against the belt drive pulley to match the rpm speed to the gear your trying to get. The applies whether your going up or down in gears. Most important thing is you do not push the gear shift hard or jam it into gear! When you get it right, it will go into gear smoothly without “grinding” or jerking. It takes practice. Beautiful restoration!
