My Dad started farming in 1953 with a used `116W pulled by a Wisconsin V4 and pulled by a Farmall Super H. 133,000 bales the 1st year, 117,000 the 2nd year, and 114,000 the 3rd year and over 110,000 bales every year after that until he traded it off in for a AC60 combine in the mid 1960;s. It had over a million bales on it. The edge of the bale chute was so sharp you did not walk to close to it because it would slice open you leg.

That's an impressive amount of bales.

Nice baler. I grew up with a JD 116w baler powered by a v4 Wisconsin engine. You would not bale hay too wet because we could not lift the bales. I still have it, but the engine is froze. Your needles went up twice at the end of the video. Weak spring???

We also had the JD 116w with the Wisconsin engine. Did lots of baling with it with my dad and brother

Sheldon Otte Dad and my uncle were 50/50 in a 116W, and you are right about heavy bales. It was always fun to have someone use to twine bales try to grab and throw one of our bales trying to be macho. Fail!!! It took more work to change from road ready to field ready than a twine baler, but the twine balers couldn't make hay like it could. Ours had PTO drive for power. Dad had some self powered implements such as a JD 12A combine, and had so much trouble with the motors that he went entirely to PTO. Lot of work, but great memories!

As a young man on the farm we baled a lot of hay with one of those. We had one with a motor and later we had one with a PTO.

Wow! That old baler makes just as nice of bales as any modern machine.

Wow, there are plenty of modern square balers that couldn't make such a tidy looking bale.

The pitchfork was the necessary accessory for cleaning up broken bales. We lovingly referred to the 114W (Wisconsin VF4D) as the JD stationary baler.

Three guys on the wagon, must be union workers, lol
@markdice2500

Takes one to drag the bale onto the wagon and two guys to pick it up. We had two 114's and they could pack alfalfa into 100 pound, or more, bales! Always looked forward to them breaking down. One had PTO and the other the Wisconsin VF4-D

Hello, I would be needing if you could upload a tutorial on how to prepare the machine before working. or if you have the manual to send me it would be helpful Thanks a lot

Does that ever make nice looking bales. Are the bales tied with twine or wire?
@djcheney2905

Did they make a twine version? Not convinced about the side exit design... difficult for stacking on trailing wagon, can't use a thrower or stooker. That's why no other baler was built like this.

Looks like a pretty old design. I'd guess it's like a lot of things, lets try to make it work, and then figure out the best way. Also, when designs are new, you will see lots of weird designs because when a patent is new, nobody can copy it, so in order to just get equipment on the market to sell, companies make some variation to sell just because it's legal, and not because it's the best. They just hope to get in on the market and sell to the people who can't afford, or can't get, the better product.

@@l337pwnage The "Roto-Baler" (makes small round bales) was an outstanding success for Allis Chalmers. Grandpa and Dad had one. In total, 79,000 were built between 1946-1974. However I've always wondered why no other manufacturer made a machine that made similar sized round bales.
@l337pwnage
@l337pwnage 3 года назад
@@haweater1555 I dunno how small they were, but they do make really small round balers for hobby farms nowadays. And I mean really small, I think you can pull them behind a lawn tractor. My guess is square bales are more popular for the stackability. New Holland even made that one machine that would pick up. stack, and unload small square bales all by itself with one operator.

I don't know this but the design might keep from having banna bales kinda like the inline baler today

@@djcheney2905 I know that this is a few years old, do you still use this baler? and is that supply place still in business? I have both a 114w and a 116w balers here but don't use them as the small wire rolls aren't to be found around here. I'm located 70 miles east of Greenville il.

Some beautiful old machinery still working impressively. The load on the tractor surges quite a bit. The big old flywheel on later models helped make it much smoother on the tractor, and less power could do more with later bailers.
