I was taught when welding on a race to start, go about 3/4 of the way around w/o stopping.. bead quality doesnt matter.. then flip over and watch it fall out. And to put the new outer races in a freezer overnight, and put back in the warm housings.. should fall right in.. make sure they're turned the right way!
I've always just went al the way around I'll have to try just 3/4 of the way and see if theres any difference .....I've froze bushings for the excavators it definitely helps to get the back in
@@dirtgrainsteel The idea is to add heat to the thin race fast, but not add a lot of metal.. the open area gets "crushed" by linear expansion and ends up shorter... Then the heat transfers to the outer housing, making the housing grow bigger.. the bearing gets even smalker as the heat transfers.. then it falls out...but you don't get the rapid heat buildup if you stop welding...
Your luck is way better than mine. The only way I've ever been able to "weld out" races, bushings, and sleeves is stick welding with 6010 or 6011. Always seemed like wire-feed never shrunk them enough for me.
I may take it to the Northern Indiana Power From The Past Show and maybe take it to the Hesston Steam Museum depending on how the summer goes and what this covid shit does I may even take the Gradall along with
appreciate your videos! Just aquired a 1949 JD MC ... it runs and drives ... might need clutches some day, runs hot (guage reads hot) but I havent trouble shot anything yet.
Awesome content! Nice and thorough. Loved it. Reminds me of Mustie1 or Dirt Perfect. We keep a cheap toaster oven in the shop. It's great for hot dogs, bearings, 12 inch pizzas and sprockets! Lol! Thumbs up from this guy!!!
Well I definitely know it takes dedication this is pretty much a part time job for me I've really been thinking about cutting back to maybe 2 videos a week
@@dirtgrainsteel probably not a bad idea. I know some seem to make too many videos and it seems to get monotonous with just boring stuff. Yours don't seem to be like that too me though. But there's no way you'll keep everyone interested for every video
With the help of JD Crawler Parts out in North Dakota I was able to get everything in fact the OEM Timken bearings are all still available and the seals are no problem to get either....now something things on the tractor are obsolete but JD Crawler Parts are haveing them items reproduced and are available or will be available
Very, very informative! I have the JD 40C. Curious, what kind of oil is in that deep fryer? I have never seen that heating technique used so that is another trick up the sleeve!
Good I’m glad I could teach you a trick the oil is just some aw46 hydraulic oil you could also us some cooking oil....you can buy a regular bearing heater but they around $400
