Sarah, I don't know if you are aware, that this song is about his life and his experiences in the Colorado Rockies Mountains. He lost a beloved friend. The reigning fire in the skies was a meteor shower. R.I.P. John Denver. YOU ARE MISSED 😢💛
There have been only two singers in my lifetime that I have cried over after hearing they were gone. John Denver is one of them. I sat down and sobbed.
Such a great song! John had so many great hits in the 70's-80's such as "Take Me Home Country Roads", "You Fill Up My Senses", "Grandma's Feather Bed", "Fly Away", "Leaving On A Jet Plane", "Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Calypso", "Sunshine On My Shoulders" etc.
Loved him & Bread back in the 70's. I think he was taken out for not going along with their sickness. He used to grow weed in the mountains and the G men kept raiding him but could never pin it on him. Stars & their plane crashes 🤔
Amen. I'm crying now, just listening to John's beautiful, angelic voice! I also bawled my eyes out, when I heard of his plane crash, and Karen Carpenter's tragic passing, from Anorexia Nervosa, and many others, since then. It's a short life. Enjoy it while you can.
John Denver always talks to your heart and lets your sould soar to places where beauty is all around. John Denver was happiest singing abour the staggering beauty of nature and in particular the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. His Musicianship is second to none. A truly beautiful Artist. You are so right his voice is so pure and gets into your soul. You are listening to one of the greatest ever song writers and performers
I am planning a trip thru Colorado because of this song. I want to see it before it's gone. I remember when this came out. I must have played it millions of times. His life story is amazing. Losing him was a big loss.
Going to Colorado? If possible, please try to go to Estes Park. It is at the entrance of the National Park and it is utterly beautiful. Have a wonderful trip.
@@MrMoon1953 Thanks for the suggestion. I've been asking around for suggestions. It's a spiritual trip, so all I want to see is nature, animals, and be alone with God for a while. I/We have some things to discuss.
@@jjmfarmer9465 Haven't you noticed how National Parks are being closed down lately? They are burning down forests left & right. I recently found out Smithsonian is covering something up in 30 caves in the Grand canyon. Heirogliphics were found by a man named Waite before cameras. He drew them, sent it to Smithsonian to decipher and they blocked the caves he found it in. The left wants to take down Mt. Rushmore. Notice, there are no Democrats on Rushmore? They messed with the Colorado river, now ppl are trying to save it. Its not what it once was. I don't trust them not to destroy the Rockies. They own the mountain parks remember.
Radio stations originally banned playing this song. They claimed it was a song about drug use. Later John Denver testified to the Senate with Dee Snyder from Twister Sister about the dangers of censorship.
He was such a poet with his music. All his songs are about real things, real places and real emotions. That beautiful voice! Raining fire from the sky was meteor showers. Taken from us much too soon. RIP John.
Nice reaction. John is unique in so many ways, not least in that he is the only song writer, composer, performer or recording artist to have written or co-written two state songs for individual states in the United States in the 20th century.. In the years following his untimely death in a plane accident in California in October 1997, Rocky Mountain High was selected as a state song for John's beloved Colorado and Take Me Home, Country Roads was selected as a state song for West Virginia. Only one other composer, Stephen Foster in the 19th century held that unique honour before John, so John has joined an exclusive club of two! Isn't that amazing?
I have played this song both times I took a road trip to Colorado Springs as soon as you see the rockies I put this song on its so appropriate colorado is a state of mind the scenery is breathtaking the mountains glacier lakes gods hand touched colorado
I've been there. To see the galaxy stretched out before you in the mountains while shooting stars color the night in the Colorado wilderness. There's no place I've ever been that has the magic of Colorado. And I've been around. There's a beauty there beyond the the works of man. A gentle peace high in the mountains. I wish I was there now.
I'm a Colorado native, John lived in Aspen, I live above Kremmling on Gore mountain. You have to see the beauty of our mountains. I consider myself blessed to see this beauty everyday.
Beautiful reaction. Growing up in Germany, I listened to John Denver all the time and this was one of my favorite songs. I dreamed back then to see the Rocky Mountains one day. 12 years later I moved to America, yet I never made it to the Rockies. Maybe one day before I get too old I will take a trip there.
One of my favorite songs from the early 1970´s. Recorded by Denver in 1972 it is the title track of the 1972 album Rocky Mountain High and No.9 on the US Hot 100 in 1973. Westerns writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time. Thanks Sarah for a great song by one of the greatest country singer ever!
When he said he’s seen it rain and fire in the sky he means he saw shooting stars shooting across the sky. I. The mountains it’s sooo dark and the stars just shine bright like fire
I've never been to Colorado, however I lived in Anchorage, Ak for 3 years. I understand these lyrics very well. I had that same high feeling in ak. The serene beauty fills your soul like a drug would making you feel high. There's no better feeling, than to be high off the beauty of the surroundings. Hope that can help you understand the lyrics more. Only other way is to experience it for yourself.
I went to the Rockies about 5 years ago. The feeling of me being insignificant compared to the beauty and magnificent of the mountains was miraculous. It is the most beautiful and peaceful place I've ever seen. After that, I understood that song. John Denver was a folk singer on a Rocky Mountain High magnitude. A great loss.
@@sherieads1298 I would like to visit there, when I left Ak we drove back to Indiana, and that was the best drive I ever took. The Rockies is one gorgeous mountain range, all the way down.
I always think of my dad when I hear John. I loved how his voice matured. When his record label dropped him he recorded independently. And it was such a fantastic album called Higher Ground. There's a song on it I love called Homegrown Tomatoes, and Whispering Jesse. My dad was a country boy so he always played A Country Girl in Paris....LOVE Calypso, Poems Prayers and Promises, by my absolute fave by him is a song called Matthew. If you haven't heard THAT song by him. DO.
John Denver was a great song writer and had loads of great songs. He sounded just as good live as he does on the studio versions. He had such a clear, calming voice. He died far too young which was a loss to the world.
I first started watching you in my friend sent me your coverage of The Star-Spangled banner and I subscribe that day and watched about 10 of them that day. Bee Gees was great. I get emotional with you
I am so very pleased by your reactions to both this song and Annie's Song!! John was truly a phenomenon and is sorely missed! You might listen to some of his duets, such as "Perhaps Love" with Placido Domingo and "Fly Away" with Olivia Newton-John! It is pleasing to see younger people around the world experience the joy of the music that we "old folks" grew up with! Keep up the good work!🥰🙂
John Denver was my first teenager musical crush. I memorized his Country Roads for an audition. My voice cracked. Oh, it was bad. LOL. What you should listen to now is a group named Bread performing "If".
I just love your eclectic taste in music and sharing your reactions to all this wonderful music. You have such a beautiful heart, and very lovely lady.
Such a RICH voice.. and he could hold a friggin note.. his connection to nurture bursts through.. two states have their state songs by him- west va too - country roads..
Same with the West Virginia one ...its so true. COLORADO AND THE ENERGY THERE..THE COLORS..THATS WHY IS CALLED COLORADO..IT MEANS MANY COLORS IN SPANISH..BUT THE WEST VIRGINIA ONE MAKES ME CRY TOO. I LIVED THERE TWICE AND CANNOT DESCRIBE THE FEELING OF THE AREA AND THE LOVING PEOPLE THERE...THANK YOI BEAUTIFUL SOUL..YOURE DOIMG A GREAT JOB ON EARTH. GREAT MISSION YOU HAVE❤
Some friends and I used to camp in the Colorado Rockies, the Grand Tetons and Alberta way, back in the seventies. There were these places that struck you to the bone with their beauty. In the late spring of '76 we camped along Grand Tetons, with the snow-capped mountain range in the background, piercing low hanging gray clouds ("poking the eye of God") nesting behind a line of tall pines at their foot, a clear ice-cold mountain lake in front of them, and in the foreground was a field of multitude of different colored wild flowers. We nick-named the place "Cheyenne Valley." We cooked thick steaks, with its juices dripping over open flames, causing them to lick the the meat, along with baked potatoes, and drank beer cooled in the ice-cold lake. Best damn meal I ever had or ever will! If there's a heaven, then Cheyenne Valley was a glimpse of it!
Sarah, I'm about 8 months away from buying some land in the Oregon forest.. I'll be away from people, I'll have to rough it, grow and hunt most of my own food..Bu't I've great outdoor survival skills/supplies (Including 2 solar generators for power ) ,Taken extended camping trips and I have to admit, there's nothing better for your soul like what Denver describes in the song. All my freinds who keep asking me why need to lisen to this tune-then they'd understand! Loved your reaction!
Artists my parents played for me when I was a young boy in the 70s: John Denver, Cat Stevens, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, Julio Iglesias, The Beatles, ABBA...
There are two other John Denver ongs you should really listen to. One is The Eagle and the Hawk, the o ther is Fly Away which he did as a duet with Olivia Newton John. Both are quite lovely and I think you would like them.
Words, music, voice and how it paints such a beautiful picture, even better watching your reactions. I was blessed to grow up playing John's songs on piano, back in 70's.. ❤😊😊😊
Some of my greatest memories are of hiking and shivering in a tent in Colorado with my wife. Breaking camp at sunrise and hiking for hours to sit at a waterfall alone with my woman and the beauty and solitude of god's creations. This song embodies this feeling. Still doing it at age 62 with the same woman plus my beautiful grand children
A great reaction. I've live in over two dozen places around the world, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to the Hawaiian paradise, to Germany and England, and in many locations in the United States, deep south, southwest, the great plains, the Pacific coast, the Great Lakes region, and the east coast. I currently live in Colorado (Centennial, the southern part of Denver). This is my third time living in Colorado (1961-1964, 1974-1978, and 2019 to present), and I've always known I'd end up here. I really can't explain it, but there is something special about the Rocky Mountains. I spent a bit of time in Afghanistan, and the mountains there are magnificent and the Rocky Mountains are underwhelming by comparison, but for some reason, they just still seem more magical. Visiting the Rocky Mountains in Colorado should be on everyone's bucket list.
John transcends all cultures. I am a Colorado native and when I hear him sing about fire in the sky, I think about every sunset I've seen in the Rockies. He's not lying about it.
It was remarkable. These were the days when people were inspired to pack up their tents and go see and experience a bit of the nature that they heard in these songs. And they would bring their guitars and sing the music around actual campfires. As a kid those memories Would last a lifetime. Can you imagine it
I remember John Denver did you know that he performanced his last concert here in corpus Christi Texas kinda of ironic corpus Christi stands for the body of Christ great job as always Sarah 👍
He had such a clear beautiful voice you could understand everything. He was an excellent pilot It’s a shame that that experimental aircraft he was flying killed him
