I think its more surreal that voices as deep as he can do comes out of a human. I don't even know Oktavists (people who sing super deep octaves) who have that deep of a voice.
It's criminal that John DiMaggio doesn't have a bunch of audiobooks out there that he's narrated. I'm sure he could do a better job than many of the narrators out today.
To me, him, Tom Kenny, Phil Lamarr, Rob Paulsen, Jim Cummings, and Jess Harnell are some of the best male voice actors by far.. that's done a lot of cartoons anyway. Tara Strong and Ashley Burch are my fave female voice actors and if we get into more game actors then Troy Baker and Nolan North are both great with lots of range
@TheJulianStephens he's definitely a great va too. And though he's only on one series I know of, sean schemmell is amazing too (english voice of goku). Then Troy Baker, nolan north and Ashley Burch are amazing in video games.
John DiMaggio has a great insight into characters its impressive. And definitely a method actor, on the mic. Guy is legendary, and capable of so many rolls, and different pitches. But known mostly for his actual voice, brought about by characters like bender, and Jake the dog.
I mean if John spent most of his time out of the studio acting like a foul mouthed robot or a shapeshifting dog it'd be method, but we don't know that.
Incredibly talented. I was expecting to hear Bender’s voice with just different pitches and variations, but this dudes range, technique, and vocal capabilities are in a class of their own. Really cool.
shoutouts to that time bender did his flexo impression, so John was doing bender doing flexo but since flexo and bender have the same exact voice, John just did bender but made him sound *just more exaggerated* lmao
John also did the voice of the Joker in Batman: Under the Red Hood, and did a really good job in portraying a much colder, more serious version of the Joker than is usually seen in animation.
Please never stop doing these videos Vanity Fair. They're massively entertaining, and it's great to see hard-working VO actors get recognition like this. Keep 'em coming!
Mouth shape of the characters, is somewhat influencing his volume, although, he's likely grown up, in a place where you have to speak above the din of jackhammer sounds, and car horns, and people yelling out their car windows. Even so, to keep a voice going, all day, sometimes most would find these start out, in one place, and drift into something more manageable, volume wise, over time. He's, obviously, shown phenomenal, top 'o' the world, voice talent, and he's creative, and funny without any scripting. I've always loved, his work, and the documentary he did about his craft, is exceptionally great.

The thing is you can tell that he's an extraordinary VA when after only making up voices for characters, you'd wanna see each of those characters come to life

If you love John DiMaggio's voice as well as some good 'ol outrageous humour, I recommend checking out a game called Madworld. Its an incredibly violent game and there's commentary over everything you do, DiMaggio plays voices one of them they are dangerously hilarious.
This man is a genius. All of his voices Are on point, and the personalities he makes up to go with the voices are wonderful especially the tiger And the purple kitty, and the alien! Why, he’s the best❤
