I saw him many times. I have an old VHS tape of him Duffey dressed up like Boy George and playing a show at Doyle Lawson's Festival in Denton NC. It was the best jamming festival I ever attended. Played with Larry Sparks mandolin player and JB Prince and Joe Green. You have never heard such twin fiddling in your life. I played guitar because there was already a great mandolin player among us.
Saw and worked on same shows that the Scene was on. Saw them at The Ryman and John was drinking a whiskey sour on stage. He made the comment,"I figured we were playing the mother church so I should have some communion..!"
