The thing to remember about this performance, is that it comes at the END of a 2 hr concert. John is a world class singer, in fact, he would outsing most of the singers in the world. Welcome to the rabbit hole.
It was not 'the' END of this particular concert. There was another encore with 2 more songs (Sadie and It's a Long Way to the Top) that followed this song on this particular night. John was known to mix things up between nights.
John was born in England, but moved to Australia as a small child. He had a big hit in the 60’s that kicked off his career and we’ve loved him ever since. He was diagnosed with jaw cancer recently and had a 13 hour operation to remove it. We Aussies cried when we heard. He remains positive but I fear we have heard him sing for the last time. We simply love him. No auto tune. Just pure talent. He turned down going to America for arena concerts because he had a wife and small kids, and that was more important.
John should always be listened to in a LIVE performance. John's signature song is You're The Voice from this concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and is why he is colloquially called "The Voice". He is a true gentleman and consummate entertainer who interacts with his audience, he also performs duets with fellow Australian artists and we'll known International artists. His duet with Olivia Newton John from The Main Event Concert singing Please Don't Ask Me is enthralling, and not to be missed.
It’s a brilliant rendition of the song. Deep Purple actually sang the first ever slow version of Help which is not entirely dissimilar to John’s version. John however took it to a whole new level with his vocal prowess and emotive solo performance with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Just brilliant! ❤❤
Hello from Australia, welcome to the Farnham rabbit hole, you are now on an epic journey 😊. From this same concert you should react to, - ACDC cover, it's a long way to the top. - playing to win - your the voice ( the Aussie unofficial national anthem) 😁 John Farnham has decades of epic music, I'm now subscribed, your reaction was great, always love seeing people watching John Farnham sing for the first time. He is going to keep blowing your mind. There are so many more suggestions that you will get from Aussies, your channel is about to get a lot more subscribers 👍👍👍
@@devilsadvocate2548 🤣 we are Aussies, we have a few. definitely the seekers with I am Australian, is another one. And waltzing Matilda lol, I could go on. 😁
@@devilsadvocate2548We have many anthems...... from Waltzing Matilda for older “true” Aussies to the Russian and Chinese national anthems for those with a uni degree that was never earnt scholastically, but bought with dedication and blind stupidity.
@@devilsadvocate2548 I did see the emoji but as I don’t know you, I can’t be sure exactly what you meant by it...... just a bit of fun or a statement of fact ? As for me....... I am still pissed off that my country has accepted Bob Hawkes illegal anthem and even MAKE young children learn it , while brainwashing them with modern socialist bulls**t. Oh....... and the imperial governments preceding Whitlam and Hawke were just as socialist, only not controlled by the German Banking Cartel and Russia ( KGB )....... and now Israel / China.
Check out his take of Black Dog by Zeppelin. He used it to warm up his voice before a concert. Also needs to be said that this rendition of Help was an encore
Your reaction to John Farnham for the first time hearing him is exactly the same reaction that everybody who hears him for the first time reacts, they are just in awe of John and as they should. Thats why John Farnham IS the bonifide Australian legend that we all love.
He's not only an Australian legend, he's considered a National Treasure, ,now that you've discovered Farnsey (his nickname) do yourself and your subscribers a favour and react to anything else from his vast playlist ,you won't be disappointed ,but whatever you do only react to his live performances which are legendary here in Australia .
Vocal virtuosity? John sings over 20 genres. There's a reason we Aussies call him The Voice. He is the GOAT and we love him like family. Btw I've probably watched over 100 reactions to this song. Yours was hands down one of the best. Thanks for covering him 👏❤
Watch him and Anthony Warlow, an opera singer and musicals star, sing Granada and hear his voice then. Then watch Please don’t ask me with Olivia Newton John.
John turned down going to America in the 70’s to do big arenas etc. because he was married and had a small family and that was more important to him. He could have been a superstar.
Now you have him Roo 😆🇦🇺 John is The Voice - Infact that's the song you need to react to; John Farnham with the Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra "You're The Voice" ❤❤ You WILL love it - I promise 🤞
Hey there, Sir Walterooski. We Aussies genuinely adore Farnsey as he’s often called. I grew up from the age of ten listening to John and Olivia Newton John on Australia’s music tv show Countdown (the UK equivalent was Top of the Pops). When John released this song I considered it (in my teenage mind) a completely different song to The Beatles Help but grew to love it despite being weaned on The Beatles. John is not only a legend for his voice in Australia but also as a true blue Aussie and a genuinely hilarious and kind man to absolutely everyone with zero ego. He made many many guest appearances on the extremely popular Saturday night comedy show ‘Hey Hey It’s Saturday’. He also performed in many stage musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar. Anything from the Age of Reason Tour is a hit. I feel so blessed to have listened to him for decades. He’s very sick right now with throat cancer and we are all praying for him and his family. Thank you for your lovely reaction. It meant a lot to me. Cheers, mate. From Tasmania, Australia 👋🦘🦘🐨🦎🇦🇺
John’s voice can be felt on a cellular level “frisson” and the fact that he sounds that good at the end of 2+ hours of concert speaks to his talent. Others came after him with their arrangement of this arrangement, like Tina Turner, but this is my favourite and I grew up listening to the Beatles. Australia loves you John, get well soon.
Love this phenomenon cover of this legendary song. John Farnham is a Australian legend and much loved down under. Thanks heaps for the amazing reaction
John was a teeny bopper star in the 1960's. He also acted on a tv show called 'Bobby Dazzler', and matured in the 80's with the Whispering Jack comeback album and tour. He is phenomenal, a truly great, humble, funny guy, and Aussie love him to death. His son Robert now fronts a band called Rival Fire, that supported KISS on their last concert tour.
Nothing wrong with preferring the Beatles version, you obviously appreciated Johns vocal abilities. He is known as "The Voice" here and he had this name decades before the reality singing program popped it's head up, because of his abilities and his hit song "You're the Voice" (which you should totally check out from the same concert). He was never huge outside Australia because he didn't want to leave his young family behind to tour overseas. This is a man Celine Dion fangirled over getting to sing with him. He is also one of the most humble down to earth entertainers on the planet. Unfortunately last year he was struck down with a mouth cancer which he is currently recovering from surgery for. We are all wishing him well and a speedy recovery. Oh and this performance was at the end of a nearly 3hr concert.
However it wasn't at the end of the concert that night. There was another encore after Help where he sang Sadie and It's a Long Way to the Top. Plus this concert was closer to 2 hours of singing than it was to 3 hours. Still amazing vocal endurance though.
Terrific reaction. Yes, they are like 2 different songs to me, The Beatles and John’s. Aussie here, re your goosebumps, I still get them listening to so many of John’s songs after years of listening to him. The Aussies will come a running here, open the door and put the kettle on 😂
Did you know that people who get goosebumps over certain voices have a different brain to people who don't? There's been research done on it, something about different pathways in the brain, you can google it.
John Farnham's voice is unique, exceptional and powerful with a big range. He has been singing for six decades with hit songs in most and he can sing in over 20 genres. John is a consummate showman and his rapport with audiences is wonderful. This song was the last (before a number of encores) of an approximately two and a half hour concert. His backing band and singers are the top-notch. He has sung with some of the best in the world. John is well-loved In Australia.
Wherever possible, react to John singing live.. His interaction with the audience is truly special. You'll also notice lots of band members and singers keep reappearing.. #loyalty
John 1st recorded his version in 1980, just prior to Lennon's assassination. And although Deep Purple did do a slow version of the song in 68, it is just the original song at a slower tempo. John did his own arrangement of it and it was reported that Yoko said John Lennon had heard it and said this was the way it was meant to be done. Tina heard it when she toured Aust and added it to her repertoire.🙂 Glad you enjoyed our John, the legend, the "Voice" as he is known here in Australlia. That song was one of a number of encores following a 2+hr concert. Anything from this concert is Epic... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UWnm_qwa2Xg.html
John Farnham’s version of Help! has almost wiped the original Beatles’ version from my memory. This is the one I hear in my head now. I understand he developed this arrangement while he was trying to learn to play it on piano. I used to avoid all Live recordings of any vocalist or band because the recorded versions were clean and on pitch and they never sounded the same or as good when performed live. But I underestimated the sheer brilliance and quality of Farnham’s voice. So now I much prefer to hear and watch him when he performed live. He gave it everything on every occasion. He showed those record execs and DJ gatekeepers what real talent can do. Shame on them for blocking him for so long. I hope he will be able to sing again for his own sake, whether he ever sings publicly again or not. God Bless John Farnham.
Loved your reaction . Hes honestly one of the best ever, Freddy , Tom Jones , hes really in that league . Its a big rabbit hole because John has a massive back catalogue . Look up his version of Black dog by Lead Zeppelin , or his opera duet with Anthony Warlow , Grenada , or When something is wrong with my baby , with Jimmy Barns .
LOL. Welcome to the Farnham rabbit hole. If you leave him with this song only… that’s unfortunate. Mind you, this was after a 2 hr concert with the MSO. His voice is ALWAYS perfect. This year he’s had some troubles. Surgery etc. we hope him all the best. ❤
It wasn't the end that particular night. It was the end of the first encore. Sadie and It's a Long Way to the Top was the second encore and the end of that recorded night.
This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol This song is one of the last songs of the night after he has already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours, Some have pointed out that this particular recording of the concert was closer to 2 hours of actual singing. Either way, it was one of multiple nights that he did on January 4-10, 1989, so his voice is still worthy of the accolades. Not many other singers can belt like that for even 2 or 3 nights without a rest. And besides picking at the exact details or this exact performance, Farnsey also has a way of getting deep into the emotions of your soul. A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one. -Burn For You.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4PPvOhPspEA.html -Angels.. Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers. JF with Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5_2NJRIdBO8.html -To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa. Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_x6N94OEkZQ.html -Please Don't Ask Me.. This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2uV_tZODfK8.html -When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.... And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AU_bCchDWF4.html Or this version. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RAlFHSPLHpo.html -When The War Is Over… Possibly one of his greatest vocals. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lfWrXc5eN8g.html -Or is the greatest. Gethsemane.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k5woMZtClhI.html -How about a mike test. He has the power and ability to distort microphones, amps, and get speaker stacks jumping. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol Black Dog. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F2Yi6TVi-sU.html Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.
@@devilsadvocate2548 I mention that after you had criticised my comments on other posts, but you keep forgetting to mention that the recording was done on one of the middle nights of the 7 concerts, so as I mentioned, he had already done this for 3 or 4 or possibly 5 nights in a row at this point.
there is nothing better on youtube than watching someone discover John. Welcome to the club. Still makes me tear up and goose bump after all these years
It’s a different song with the same words. This is amazing, but I will remain team Beatles. John Farnham could sing and certainly should be listened to more. 😊
I'm glad you enjoyed this performance of Help by John Farnham. It's always great to see new reactors to this great Australian musical treasure. John Farnham's vocal range is very impressive, so much he has earned the respect of many music stars around the world. Tom Jones, Celine Dion, Richard Marx, to name a few. You also probably noticed how when John sings, especially when he belts it out, that he has the mic a bit further away from his mouth. That's how powerful his voice actually is.
Wait to you hear him do his sound check & warm up song before a concert. Cover of Led Zeppelin - Black Dog. There is no video it`s just audio, but it`s amazing. 👍🤩
Enjoy the John Farnham journey. Thank you for your reaction. Disagree with best version comment. Even one of the Beatles said that JF version was the way the original was supposed to be.
I did not realize that reaction videos were a thing. Now that I have stumbled upon them I cannot get enough of the Farnesy reactions. It is so satisfying to see people around the world experiencing for the first time, something my (and every other Aussie family) has had ingrained in our hearts our whole lives. John was an integral part of my parent’s childhoods when he was Johnny. The Voice was an integral part of mine and my brother’s teenage and early adult lives. Listening to all these reactions it is hard to believe there is a world of people who did/do not know of John. It just blows me away. We know and now you do too. This is so cool!
We do love John, and watching your reaction made it even more outstanding. FWIW, he was "King of Pop" in oz five years in a row back in the late 60s early 70s. He also had a number one album in oz five decades in a row. And if you travel far down the Farnsey rabbit hole, you'll come to appreciate why so many people say that he can sing any bloody thing.
Thanks for your appreciation of our national hero. This IS my all time favourite cover if any song and it gives me goosebumps every time i hear it. I was lucky enough to see John sing it live.
If you are reacting to the Voice Australian’s just move in and your followers increase. That was an encore after using that voice for two to three hours. His Documentary of his life was released May 18th. His start was so hard. You have about 50 plus years of music to choose from. John had a number one album in five consecutive decades. The Whispering Jack album was at number one for more than six months and even Michael Jackson couldn’t move him. John is humble, kind and wonderful, he is loved. He sings many genres naturally, even Opera. I am new sub from Queensland Australia. Thank you.
Teary eyed - yes, along with myself and millions of others. It's the Farnsey phenomenon - listen to John, any song, and you'll find your emotional self. He's unique, his voice is exquisite. Jan 24. UK. E❤
Farnsey is a living legend in Australia, fantastic and powerfull voice and an awesome human. Growing up i knew this version first and when i first heard the Beatles' version i was like wow the Beatles covered John Farnham...lol i was young 😂 I can understand what you were saying about liking the Beatles' version better but this will always have a pkace in my soul! And hey you're allowed to be wrong occasionally 😂 Aussie sarcasm btw..we have to qualify it sometimes so not to cause offence. 😅 Btw thanks for introducing me to AnnenMayKantereit!
I'm DEFINITELY traveling to Melbourne, Australia after this. Incredible music comes out of this country! Just discovered JF via Celine Dion's documentary. She was a super fan of his, too. Loved your commentary!
I subbed after you said “stop what you’re doing, take your right hand and place them firmly over your pearls”. LOL. Love our Farnesy, looking forward to you checking out more of his catalogue.. it’s pretty extensive! 😉👍🏻
I like both versions of the song but John Farnham was the first guy I every fell I love with. My husband of over who I’ve been with for over 30+ years even knows he has to take a back seat to two people. My son and John Farnham. I believe the man should be given a new mane for everything he’s done for the entertainment industry and Australia…. Sir John Farnham
You should have been there! Its so much more vibe. You were born too late for this Party so do yourself a favour and check out 👀 another song YOUR THE VOICE performed just before this final encore of the same night. Cheers
Thi is how Lennon wanted the tempo of this song to be and I'm sure he thanked Farnham for singing it the way he wanted it to be sung. I'm on Farnham's side here it is a song that has lyrics deserving to be heard in that slow tempo. As you hear more of this English born Australian, just as much loved in New Zealand, you'll find out this legend can sing any genre. Here's some more you have to hear, this one is Cold Chisel's but John's version is way better, 'When The War Is Over' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BekbvlLzMWc.html, 'That's Freedom' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JWjtlMBl3Xo.html, 'Two Strong Hearts' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tqaMHMooiEU.html, 'Reasons' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X4b5CYJz_lM.html, 'Touch Of Paradise' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--N_rwDyGmyU.html, and the unofficial national anthem of Australia, the song I recommend you listen to next 'You're The Voice' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6m2m_9Uijso.html. So have fun listening to one of the greatest voices of all time.
I've seen some reaction channels explode when they have dived into the John rabbit hole. Dude, do some more, we will come in droves! You;re The Voice from the same concert is phenominal
I feel like the entire sentiment between the two versions is very different. I interpret the Beetles version as being a group of inexperienced young men growing up and asking for help learning how to be men. John’s version is almost a sequel of sorts, showing that even strong people can be vulnerable and need help sometimes. I think that’s why people relate more to one version or the other. Just my interpretation anyway.
John first sang his version of The Beatles classic song Help at a Royal Command Performance, during his transition from Johnny Farnham the pop idol to John Farnham the adult entertainer; I believe he released this in 1977, this performance from the Classic Jack Concert is much orchestrated and performed.
