Cecil Williams Ah shuddup Just because you don't like a kinda music doesn't mean it's wrong It upsets me what I listen to and play ain't necessarily liked by my friends too but there's no reason to be uppity
WHOAH!!! Where does a 22 year old come up with such lyrics?!! This young man is incredable! I came across him at Sisters Folk Fest this year and was BLOWN AWAY!!
I feel Tom Waits oozing through this song. Love John's versatility in his songwriting. His music took all of my attention when I first heard him. I was hooked from the first line of Satan and St. Paul. I can't wait to see what he does with his talent once he has settled into the spotlight. I don't think we've heard the best of John Fullbright quite yet.
@Lance Taylor- When I first met John, he was 20 or 21 years old and had already written and released this song. Imagine being that young and writing this kind of depth. Yeah, definitely Tom Waits blood running through his veins. And, no, we've not heard his best. He's still growing.
I played with you once, you were a kid, of course you'll always be a kid to me. We were at a winery in Okemah called Grape Ranch. I knew you were special but I never knew how much so. I tell people, I jammed with John Fullbright, Grammy nominee! I wish you all the best, man. Jeff Woodcock
In my dreams I see a fat man On his face is a frown He’s got money in his left hand In his right he’s got strings that run All over town As he pulls on them tightly he chokes all that grows He keeps watch day and nightly and plucks life Like a rose. In my dreams I see the young men That will change history They will die for the fat man As he laughs so carelessly In his laughter I hear the sorrow From the pain that it brings I hear mothers weeping softly Wrapped up tightly In his strings. Cut the strings from his fingers Wrap them twice around his throat Show him not your kind mercy From the laws that he forgot he wrote Let us know of that which binds us That which steals all that grows That which kills what defines us To be plucked Like a rose.
This dude has like the best voice ever! Kinda like Billy Joel meets Stevie Ray Vaughn. This is the first I've heard of him! I'm going straight to I Tunes! I need this in my life! Instant number 1 fan right here!
Man I heard this guy in Houston a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing, he sounds better in person (I know that is unbelievable but true) and he has mastered the piano, guitar and harmonica, fantastic concert I highly recommend seeing this guy live
just read Kelsey Yaos 'comment.' he thoughtfully put the lyrics in for us to read. thank you Kelsey. and thank you John Fullbright---for your amazing imagination and talent!!
@MrAsbestosfish Yes.. I just discovered John Fullbright tonight and liked him very much. VERY MUCH. and seeing this MusicFog for the first time. Checking it out too.
@amandahop1971 yes he is...and this means you have good taste too. I just seen him for the first time this evening. wow...will be looking for more from him Would like to see him again.
I'm gonna haveta sit down and visually contemplate the lyrics of this one. Right now, all I can think of is something like Jack the Knife. It is somewhat captivating because of Fulbright's style of delivery. Well, I didn't have to go far----the lyrics were in the comments. I am wondering what Fulbright had in mind when composing.
All you ppl commenting on something like he musta sold his soul to the devil to be this good (combined with other songs he's written like Satan & St. Paul and Gawd Almighty) are just jealous I guess. Whether you question this young man's political or religious affiliations, he is a true talent that hails from the same small town that spawned another legend in another time ... WOODY GUTHRIE. I don't think there's anything going on here other than he is an AMAZING SINGER/SONGWRITER with God-given talent that will be very famous someday. JOHN FULLBRIGHT YOU ROCK!
In my dreams I see an orange man On his face is a frown He’s got money in his left hand In his right he’s got Republicans All over town As he screams about fake news, and hides all his hoes He's Tweeting day and nightly and Russians Are his bros.
I think it might be about Churchill Genocidal racist. Although they don't teach you that in the books Maybe not but I like to think. Talking about young men who change the world and give their life for the fat man. It adds up
Wow. He's quite a talented "old soul." And, I'd love to know what the heck @coosbay1000 meant by his comment -- He makes it sound as if John F. has sold his soul to the devil. 'Care to expound, Mr. or Ms. Coosbay?
Just another Slim Shady if you know what I mean. Ask Eminem to listen to him, he'll tell you, he'll recognize where this guy got his talent from. It's not worth it!
