I gather you are saying that "it's" is knowledge of and skill in NLP ideas and techniques? So what is your alternative? Security by obscurity? That doesn't work very well, as you only need a few people to know what you are trying to keep obscure for it to fail. You will end up with no protection from those who find out what you are hoping they won't know. So, to take up your metaphor and may be extend it a little, imagine a mad man with it. The resolution is to know these ideas deeper and hone these skills more expertly than those who would misuse them. It's the essence of a systemic war, or an information war. You either don't interact at all, or you educate yourself to be aware of others communications and in deep rapport of your self, particularly your unconscious self. This is not just about the mad men out there. It includes those well meaning skilled but idiotic people who know enough to be effective in their communications, but lack the wisdom to use it to your personal benefit. The only solution I am aware of is knowledge and skill.
