John Henry is my favorite horse of all time and Marshall my number one caller. As a lifelong Californian I was fortunate to see John Henry several times including at Golden Gate Fields. In the 80's I enjoyed driving to Lake Tahoe and hearing Marshall call races in New York. "John Henry in front" - love the result and the call

That race tells you everything you need to know about a great racehorse! It's all right there,running on the lead against some best around at that time,and just kept rolling. If John saw you coming at him he was real tough to get by! He was pure hickory! RIP Buddy!!!!

he wired the field at 1 3/4 in the san juan cap and then, at the age of 9 wires at 1 1/2. majesty's prince and all along were both great turf horses.

The one and only legendary Steel Horse... The great John Henry was truly a phenomenal wild spirited horse who surprised the world with what he was able to accomplish during his racing career. He was nine years old and still able to compete at the highest level of competition. Wow! What an amazing horse 💕

John had such tenacity...wouldn't let ANY horse get past him. No way was he going to give up the lead. Love you John!

Win ran second in statebred maidens more than a dozen times before they let him loose. Fortknightly had beaten Caveat in a juvenile stakes event in 1982.
