That's funny. I was just watching True Lies and that scene came on, and I was already on the computer, so I found the song to listen. During the dance scene though, I quit typing with my hands.
It's a lonely picture Of an empty glass It's a still life study Of a drunken ass And he howls at the moon Hoping the sun don't come up too fast I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone on my knees at last Alone in the dark It's extreme self pity And frozen fear 'cause I want you with me And you're not here So I rub my nose in it babe Til the roses smell just like death I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone and drawing whiskey breath Alone in the dark My head is spinning baby what went wrong I swear to god I tried Just turned around one day and you were gone Now these tears I have to cry Alone in the dark baby, I'm all alone, I'm all alone, I'm all alone Since the night you left I just couldn't stand myself anyway I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone on my knees at last Alone in the dark I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone on my knees at last Alone in the dark
O wow, this song helped me through the night..kicked out by some woman..I could return to sleepon the attic..hiding my booze in some army boots I still kept listening to this song with my headphones all the way back in 2013, this song was performed in the good year 1987..ultimate brilliancy
looks like Hiatt's playing in E or B, Sonny would be open D or A. Not sure what tunings he uses, but that would be my guess. As good as he is , Cooder gave it a little more bottom, or the bass needs a little more oomph
Great you all using the same words as I would use for this song: bad-ass, kickass, funkin' hot song. All alone in the dark, drawing whiskey breath. From the album Bring the family, with Ry Cooder on guitar. In this band, (slide)guitarplayer is Sonny Landreth.
GooD Sound !!! I remember the first I heard this music it was From the movie "True Lies" And I wondered who sings this song cos' there's something weird in it. In fact I was confusing it with "The Commitments - Mustang Sally". It's almost the same
@@davidcohen393, that band was the Guilty Dogs, not dirty dogs ---- they were Hiatt's studio and road band for the Perfectly Good Good Guitar tour, with Mike Ward on guitar and Davey Farragher (I think) on bass. I saw them 4 times on that tour and they just kept getting better and better! Mike Ward played a slide solo on Thank You Girl ( from Bring the Family) that would have made Cooder or Landreth sweat bullets (and I'm a huge fan of both)!
I have the MP3/CD quality of the "radio" version of this song, as used in "True :Lies" when Jamie Lee Curtis is dancing like a tramp. Want the sheet music & tabs? Message me.
Nope, that's Sonny Landreth; Ry wasn't available for the tour to support Hiatt's Bring the Family, so Sonny and the Goners got the gig instead ---- without which I likely wouldn't have heard of Sonny and my life would be duller for it. It wasn't until the Little Village record and tour some 5 or 6 years later that the original Bring the Family crew (Cooder, Nick Lowe, Jim Keltner) got together again for a record and tour (the record was so-so but they were great live).
this is the song featured in the movie true lies, where Jamie Lee Curtis strips and does a sexy dance for Arnold S.!So I can see this as a perfect strip song now, lol!
It's kind of sad that it takes a recommendation from Bonnamassa (whom I find kinda bland) to alert people to the greatness of Sonny and John Hiatt, who played this some 35 years ago.
