Sanden is one of my contemporary painting heroes. I have his books (one autographed) & his video of painting Sargent's Lady Agnew. Was lucky enough to attend his seminar back in the early 1980's when I lived in NY, where I also purchased a signed print of his beautiful painting of Jesus. A true modern master, he is a constant inspiration to me in my own pursuit of portrait painting. Wish I'd had the opportunity to study with him. God bless you, John Howard Sanden, and may you continue to create great art for years to come!
..... "and here i am after all these years, still being excited by the chance of doing something maybe better than anything i've done before. -I think that's what keeps most artists going ".... ♥
I took (fell into, more exactly) Mr Sanden's class at the Art Student's League in NYC in the late 70s-early 80s. He was the most encouraging, generous of teachers to we who struggled, and finally I got one right! Even though I moved away, maybe 11 years later we met happenstance in Connecticut, and he knew instantly who I was. I couldn't believe it! What a lovely guy!
I have had the great pleasure of seeing you and hearing your lectures several times. You are my inspiration and I would love to visit your studio some day. I have been to Mr. Rockwell's and it changed my life. Seeing your studio would be the greatest dream come true. My best to You and Elizabeth.
I went to the Art Student's League in the summer of 1971, August to be precise. I studied with the old master Robert Brackman on the fifth floor of the school and would often drop in on Howard Sanden's demos. I was eighteen years young, eager, and with only pennies in my pocket, but I was there learning and painting... The same thing I am doing today at age sixty-nine, fifty years later.
Me encanta, precioso.
Sir my name is Ken Pridgeon Sr. and I have been watching your videos for years. I paint portraits of the fallen of Texas and have painted over 300 of them and presented an 18x24 print to the family for free. You and I are the same age and I live in Baytown, Texas and have Portrait of a Warrior Memorial Art Gallery here. I'm sure that I probably would never be invited to the big art institutes and would probably be standing outside in my blue jean outfit with a red beret and medals and veteran's slogans and decals, but I just want to say a few years back I decided to become a portrait artist and ease a few heartaches of the gold star families. First I bought all of your videos and copied many of your portraits. I also watch youtube and have every night for about 7 years with very few misses. my work can be seen at servicewithhonor.org
How generous of you Ken. Just wanted to let you know that I wanted to see your work but the link isn't working. Does it need the www. at the begnning? UPDATE: okay I found you on Facebook. WONDERFUL paintings Ken!! God bless you!
one of my favorite painters, John Howard Sanden. Anyone knows if this is a recent video. He looks much older here than I am accustomed to seeing him in other videos.
Nice guy, he has had an impressive career. Very hit or miss work though. Alot isn't just that great. The portraits of the president and first lady are the worst in this video. Like he said his best work was when he was younger.
You'd better to rationalize rather than just say bluntly "are the worst". If you can elaborate it, people might be convinced, otherwise it does not make sense.
